Comparison.

Omnipresent, unavoidable, like a constant of our planet earth.

To be fair, it has benefited our life in essential ways.

But if we don't watch our interaction with "comparison", we might get too close to it, to the point of hurting ourselves.

Hopefully we can all learn to manoeuvre "comparison", making it serve us, instead of the other way around.

Like this episode. Here I’d like to put forward a little bit challenging question for niki 😁. Can our inner initiatives always work, without comparing our results to those of others and steering the direction timely during the process of doing things?

This is a very good question, and a great addition for my listeners to check after they've listened to this episode. My answer is, 1. it's impossible not to see the results of others, if you guys are doing the same thing. So objectively there will be a comparable difference between your performance and others’ performance. For example, recently I play tennis with my father quite a lot, and my father is surely playing better than I am. 2. But the point is not to actively compare yourself to others and get proud or depressed because of it. For example, the fact is that my father plays better, but I never FEEL inferior. I know that every time I play, I just need to do what I need to do, and a good result (without my emotions getting in the way) will naturally ensue. Hopefully this explanation makes sense :)
燕云十七:Thanks for the helpful further explanation. And it’s great to know that your dad plays tennis better than you haha.

单纯比较物品和他人,像前面举的原始人、选同桌例子那样是ok的,但是不要使自己get involved, 因为这样的话我们的ego will come into play, and we will waste our energy in some unnecessary part. 那么我们的标准应该来自何处呢:our burning and internal desire to do something according to our highest level. By doing so, we will be a better person.

As the English language beginner, I have to admit I have been comparing different English podcast programs. And the best one is here due to the selected topic, the host’s tone and tune and pronunciation is always clear.
