Hit home with me too!! Turned 22 last month, but how I wish I could turn back the clock and remain a child when my folks were younger, which, funny as it is, is totally opposite of what I thought when I was little.

Congrats and best wishes!
One of the reasons I like THD is you guys are pretty objective, for example, you guys are alwasy aware of you are privileged.
So I guess parenting in China should be a lot easier than in the US. Although labor cost is getting more and more expensive in China, especially in Shanghai, but still way cheaper than in the US. So you can hire a full time nanny to take care of lots of stuff. And if your wife's parents in China, you will get tons of help from them.
Actually I have a question, if your wife is a feminist, and she insists to give the child her last name instead of yours, what will you do?
In term of music, back to 1990s in China, there are many FM radio stations, mostly in the weekend, at least that is what I remembered, they had programs to introduce western popular song/music. Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" was the song impressed me the most at that time...

:Thanks! Yes we get much more support when raising a newborn in China vs the US. So we really cannot complain. To answer your question about the last name. I would compromise and have the child take both last names. This is common in the west now, the last name would just be longer and include both, but that might be strange in China. Tracy Chapman is a legend.
