The trees and grass know that spring will go away,

百般红紫斗芳菲

Of red blooms and green leaves make gorgeous display.

杨花榆荚无才思

But willow catkins and elm pods are so unwise,

唯解漫天作雪飞

They wish to be flying snow darkening the skies.
