Dear Council Members,
I am writing this letter in reference to the proposed closing of the sports and leisure recreation center that is in the charge of the local council. I understand the council is considering closing the center due to budget constraints; however, I would like to take this opportunity to express concerns of how its closure will affect the local community.
There is a strong consensus that such an action will result in an increase in youth delinquency, in other words, that the petty crime rate will see an upsurge. The recreation center presently offers many activities for young people, and that without such facilities, youngsters will inevitably find other outlets for their energy, namely, running amok in the local area. This will likely result in an increase in criminal damage and vandalism, and thus, instead of saving money as the council desires, costs will increase owing to such illegal behavior.
Secondly, the center acts as a meeting point for many of the local area’s elderly during the weekdays, allowing our senior citizens some respite from the boredom they encounter in their daily lives.
All in all, the sports and leisure center is a lifeline to both the young (youth) and the elderly alike, and without it, we fear our community will see a decline in both morale and in civility if it were to close.
I look forward to your positive reply in this matter, and I hope we can all work together to find other ways to overcome the financial difficulty our community is currently facing.
