Ex: We need to get this notarise, but the notary is there, and It's due by 12. Man, we're on a wild goose chase.
Tips: Notary(公证人)
"A lost cause"
Ex: I'm trying to find my glasses, but I think it is a lost cause.
Tips: "a lost cause" can't find the things. "A wild goose chase" still have the hope.
"a waste of time"
Ex: This's been wate of time. We didn't find anything we needed.
"in vain"
Ex: We are doing something in vain.(u r kinda misguided in your search. It's noy gonna happen for another reason. )

A wild goose chase
= It means that u are or wer searching for something that is impossible to get or u won't find, and it can be used on literally levels as well as metophrical levels.
Ex: I wanted to move and we've been looking everywhere, but it's like we are on a wild to goose chase.
👏Context: Anytime looking for any product any item that are rare or hard to find and unexpected. That's the vibe we are going for.
👏Context: trying to find an outfit to wear as a bridesmaid in a certain color that is really rare.
👏Context: trying to find a job in abad economy.
Ex: I've been applying to jobs anywhere networking, but I'm on a wild goose chase.

have you ever been in a situation when you're looking for something but it's hard to find ? today get one phrase that can help you to express the intensity of your search in English.
wild goose chase, searching something that's impossible to get or you just won't find.
徒劳无益的追求劳而无功的事
1. sometimes we say i feel like i was on a wild goose chase in seens that way but i can find it just everything is all over the place杂乱无章到处.
eg, i wanna move and we have been looking at everywhere but it's like on a wild goose chase.
( anytime looking for any product or any item that just rare or hard to find, what's the vibes感应共鸣 we are going for.)
2. trying to find a outfit to wear as a bridesmaid伴娘 in a certain color that's really rare.
eg, the bride新娘 wants us all to wear a color coat peacock blue, but i am on a wild goose chase trying to find anything in that color.
3. you're trying to find a job in a bad economy.
eg, i have been applying to jobs everywhere on networking工作关系网人脉 but I'm on a wild goose chase.
4. you're trying to get signatures or documents that you need and you're spending a lot of time runing all over 到处跑.
eg, so we need to get this ... arrives, but the notary公证人 isn't there and it's Dubai 12, man we are on a wild goose chase.

a lost cause, you already decided it can't be find the thing, while wild goose chase you could still have some hope.
无望的事情：指无法挽回或改变的情况或事情
eg, i am trying to find my glasses, but i think it's a lost cause.

waste of time ( unnecessary steps)
eg, ok well this is been a waste of time, we didn't find anything we needed.

in vain, you're kind of miss guy that you're search, it gonna not happened.
