"Past simple" Vs "Past progressive"
👏"Past simple tense" used for a completed action at a specific point.
Ex: I thought I saw your dog in the
👏"Past progressive tense" is an action which happened over a period of time in the past.
Ex: I was thinking about you yesterday.👏How to use tense for activities.
🚩I went running.
Tips: Generally, we used past progressive tense for an activity.
🚩I ran yesterday.
Tips: Not common for American native speakers say it that way.
I ran a Marathon.
Tups: Used for naming or describing what we did.
What did you do yesterday?(昨天你干啥了?)
I went skiing(我去滑雪了). Instead of saying "I skied."
I skied tow black Diamonds.( past simple tense used for a specific activity.)

一般过去时还是过去进行时?
1. past simple tense 一般过去时用于描述过去的事件,大多数英语动词在过去时态中以-ed结尾
when we are describe a completed action that happen at a very specific point in the past, we know When it happens.
eg, I thought i saw your dog at the park.
2. past progressive 过去进行时用于描述过去某个时间点或时间段内正在进行的动作或状态
use for action happen at a period of time in the past.
eg, I was thinking about you yesterday.
3. Tips
(1)use past progressive for doing an activity in general , like i went running.
(2)use past simple if we are naming what we did or describing it, like i run a marathon.
eg, what did you do yesterday?
i skied a black diamond run.
or i went skiing.
I went grocery shopping yesterday.
or i shopped at winko yesterday.
(3)for eating we always use past simple tense
eg, i ate breakfast.
i went to a restaurant.
(4)for most activities It's just past simple, and the only time we use past progressive is when we describe an action that was interrupted.
eg, i was eating breakfast then my friend walked by the window ...
