Part 1: Are You Burned Out? Hi listeners, welcome back to the Work Smart channel. Let me ask you a few questions to start: Have you ever felt emotionally drained, like you just don’t have the energy to deal with work—or even life? Have you felt numb or detached from your job, even though you once found it meaningful? Do you struggle with focus, decision-making, or feel like your emotions are out of control? If you answered yes to any of these, you might be at risk of burnout. What Is Burnout? Burnout isn’t just being tired after a long day. It’s a chronic state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged stress—especially at work. It typically shows up as: • Emotional exhaustion • Feeling detached or cynical about your job • Struggling to concentrate or make decisions • Difficulty managing or expressing emotions Let me give you a personal example. As a researcher, if I find myself unable to focus after reading for five hours—and I don’t take a break or reset—that’s a red flag. Or when I receive negative feedback from a manager, and I start feeling anxious, low, or like I’m not good enough—those emotions can build up quickly. If I don’t manage them, they can tip me into burnout. Sound familiar? You’re not alone. What the Data Says (2025 Snapshot)

Part 2: A recent report in 2025 shows that 66% of American employees are currently experiencing burnout. And here’s what’s more alarming: • 81% of workers aged 18–24 • 83% of those 25–34 • Only 49% of those 55 and older report the same Clearly, younger generations are feeling it more intensely. So what’s causing this widespread burnout? • 24% say they have too much work and not enough time • Another 24% feel they lack the tools or resources to do their jobs properly • 20% blame the poor economy, which adds extra stress • And 19% are taking on extra work due to staff shortages Burnout is a real and growing issue—and it’s time we take it seriously. Are you one of those people feeling overwhelmed and emotionally tired? What’s causing your burnout—your workload, your boss, the company culture, or something else? Drop me a message or leave a comment—I’d love to hear your story. And don’t forget: you’re not alone, and there are ways to prevent and recover from burnout. Thanks for tuning in to Work Smart. Take care of yourself, and I’ll see you in the next episode.
