【聊了什么 The What】

Have you seen the viral sign language interpreter from Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance? And why would a K-pop boy band’s music video feature American Sign Language (ASL)? In this episode, we talk about those striking sign-language moments in pop culture and the stories behind them.

When we go to concerts, are we chasing flawless pitch—or that shared atmosphere and emotional experience? How do members of the Deaf community enjoy a musical feast through visuals, vibration, and emotional resonance? From how Deaf artist Justina Miles infuses rap “attitude” into facial expressions and movement, to why the ASL performance of Cardi B’s “WAP” turns its explicit lyrics into a different kind of “visual shock,” we examine how music transcends hearing to become a multidimensional, physically charged performing art.
