Erinome: Hello dear friends, welcome to our podcast! Today we are going to talk about a common health problem that many people face - fatty liver. I'm Erinome.

Enceladus: And I'm Enceladus! Hey Erinome, first, what is fatty liver exactly? I’ve heard the name but not sure what it means.

Erinome: Oh, it’s when too much fat builds up in liver cells. The news says most people get it because of unhealthy lifestyles. Like eating too much, drinking a lot of alcohol, not exercising, or staying up late.

Enceladus: Oh no! That sounds familiar. My cousin drinks every weekend and never works out… Maybe he has it?

Erinome: Maybe! We should tell him to be careful. So, if someone has fatty liver, how to take care of it? Let’s start with diet. What should they eat?

Enceladus: The news says “light diet” is important. Like low fat, low cholesterol. And less oil, sugar, salt. Also, don’t eat too much greasy or hard-to-digest food.

Erinome: Right! No more fried chicken or big fatty meals, haha. What about exercise? I know exercise helps a lot.

Enceladus: Oh yes! Aerobic exercise is good. Like jogging, fast walking, cycling, or swimming. The news says 4 times a week, more than 30 minutes each time. You know that?

Erinome: Wow, 4 times a week! That’s a lot, but maybe necessary. What about sleep? Does sleep matter for fatty liver?

Enceladus: Oh right! Sleep is super important. The best time for liver to “clean itself” is 11 PM to 3 AM. So we should sleep then.

Erinome: Oh, I sometimes stay up late… If I have to stay up, what should I do?

Enceladus: The news says after staying up, we need to sleep more later. And drink more water. Also, eat foods with vitamins and protein to make the harm smaller.

Erinome: Got it! So diet, exercise, sleep… Any other tips? I remember the second news talked about something else.

Enceladus: Oh yes! Fiber! We need to eat more fiber. Like oats, mung beans, tomatoes, grapefruit, and black fungus. Fiber helps us feel full, so we eat less, and it takes bad stuff out of our body.

Erinome: Fiber is good! What about carbs? Like rice and bread? Should we stop eating them?

Enceladus: No, not stop, but eat less. Especially white rice and white bread. The news says too much carbs turn into sugar, and the sugar makes fat build up in the belly. So better eat more whole grains instead.

Erinome: Oh, whole grains like brown rice or oats? That makes sense. So, is fatty liver a serious problem? Can it get better?

Enceladus: Wow, good question! The news says it’s reversible! If you find it early and take care, it can go back to normal. That’s a relief, right?

Erinome: That’s great! But wait, what happens if we ignore it?

Enceladus: Oh no, that’s bad. Long-term fatty liver can make the body’s metabolism messy. Then maybe get diabetes, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, or heart problems. So we must take it seriously.

Erinome: Scary! So how do we know if we have it? Can we feel it?

Enceladus: The news says mild cases have no symptoms. But when the fat in liver is more than 30%, B超 (B-chao, ultrasound) can check it. Normal liver has about 5% fat. 5%-10% is mild, 10%-25% moderate, over 25% is severe.

Erinome: Oh, so we can’t just “feel” it. Need to check sometimes. Now, besides diet, exercise, and sleep, are there any other helpers for the liver?

Enceladus: Um, the first news mentioned something called milk thistle. Do you know that?

Erinome: Milk thistle? What’s that? A plant?

Enceladus: Yes! It’s a plant good for the liver. The extract from milk thistle can protect liver cell membranes, improve liver function, and help protect the liver from chemical damage.

Erinome: Oh, that sounds helpful! Are there products with milk thistle?

Enceladus: Yes, like Jian Ganshi milk thistle products. But remember, the news says these products can’t replace medicine. So if you have serious problems, still need to see a doctor.

Erinome: Right! Important to remember: not a medicine. So, to sum up, fatty liver is common, but we can fight it with good diet, exercise, sleep, fiber, less carbs, and maybe milk thistle. And it’s reversible!

Enceladus: Exactly! So let’s all try to live healthier: eat light, move more, sleep on time, and say no to too much alcohol or staying up late.

Erinome: That’s right! Okay, that's it for today. Hope this helps our listeners. Let's talk again next time! Bye!

Enceladus: Bye everyone! Stay healthy!
