In this episode of TT’s Living Room, I invited friends in New York at different life stages to talk about friendship. A few years after graduation, many of us have noticed how making friends—especially in a big city—differs from school: some still long for a core group, while others find one-on-one connections more natural. Some realize that widening their social circle makes certain friendships feel more “transactional,” while others turn hobby partners into acquaintances and eventually close friends. As Chinese living abroad—moving often, with friends scattered across the world—we also discussed periodic friendships, cross-cultural connections, setting boundaries, and the need to normalize the idea of a “friendship breakup.”
