但事实上我的家人并不觉得这是什么大问题After making sure I wasn’t hurt, they even comforted me, saying breaking a cup meant breaking bad luck for the next year, and it was a good thing.
After hearing that, I felt a big relief. I cleaned up the glass pieces and went back to enjoy the New Years Eve dinner.
I felt really embarrassed at that moment. It seemed like I’d done something wrong in front of the whole family, which made me look not calm enough and a bit careless. I was afraid my mom would scold me.
1. When it comes to breaking something, the first thing that comes to mind is the time I broke a cup at my aunt’s house. In fact, it was just an ordinary cup—a glass one used for drinking water. This happened during the Spring Festival last year. During the Spring Festival, my whole family went to my aunt’s house for a reunion dinner; it’s a traditional custom in China. There were many delicious dishes that day, like beef, grilled fish, and crabs. I ate a lot and then felt very thirsty, so I wanted to drink some water. My aunt told me the cups were in the cabinet and asked me to get one myself, so I went. But because I was so thirsty, and everyone was chatting happily during the festival, I got quite excited. I kept chatting with everyone while getting the cup, and accidentally dropped it—it broke into pieces.
7. I’m on the fence about this question. I think it both should and shouldn’t be the case. On one hand, I think the older generation should teach young people how to fix things. This can improve young people’s life skills, so they can fix these things by themselves later. But on the other hand, I also think it might not be necessary. Because if something breaks, you can immediately take out your phone to search for how to fix it, or call a professional to come and repair it. Fixing things is no longer an essential skill now.
4. Actually, I think that’s the case. Clothes produced by factories are usually made by machines, and these machines are automated. So they are more precise, with no errors, which makes the quality better. On the contrary, hand-made clothes are, after all, made by humans. It’s very normal for them to have some flaws. Moreover, each hand-made piece is unique, so the quality isn’t always guaranteed.

5. Oh, yes. Although I said hand-made clothes may not be as good in quality as machine-made ones, I think hand-made clothes are more valuable in terms of value—because they are all unique. There are small differences between each hand-made garment, so each has its own uniqueness. Compared with factory-made clothes, which are all identical, hand-made clothes are indeed more valuable. Those small flaws are actually more like their shining points.

6. I think older generations are really better at fixing things. Whether it’s the elderly in my family or other families, they’re quite good at repairing stuff—especially things like furniture and water pipes. I believe this is because they were taught skills on how to fix these things when they were young, so they can handle it. Besides, there weren’t as many professional repair jobs back then. When household furniture broke, they had to fix it themselves, which is why they’re more skilled in this area.
2. I think things made of glass are easier to break, especially glass cups and bowls. These are tableware we use frequently for eating and drinking—since we use them so often, they’re more likely to get broken. Sometimes when you carry a glass cup to another room, you might accidentally drop it on the floor, and it will break right away. They’re really fragile and can’t stand even a single fall.

3. I think independent people prefer to fix things by themselves. First, independent people usually have better hands-on skills—fixing broken furniture or electronic devices is a piece of cake for them, and they can get it done in just a little time. Besides, they don’t like to trouble others. When facing problems, independent people usually prefer to solve them on their own first rather than ask for help from others.
