Erinome: Hello dear friends! Welcome to our daily podcast. Today, Enceladus and I will talk about a hot topic in China—many places are hiring, but guess what? They only want retired people!

Enceladus: Oh! Retired people? Like retired teachers? I heard something about this.

Erinome: Yes! It’s called the "银龄讲学计划" (Yinling Teaching Plan). The government wants to use retired teachers’ experience to help schools in rural areas.

Enceladus: Wow, that sounds meaningful. How many teachers will be hired this year?

Erinome: The national plan says 7,000 teachers for compulsory education. And many provinces are joining, like Hubei, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Gansu… even Hebei will hire 415, Sichuan 370!

Enceladus: Oh, so many! Where will these teachers work? Big cities?

Erinome: No, mainly in poor areas. Like 脱贫地区 (poverty-alleviated areas), 革命老区县 (old revolutionary base counties), and key counties for rural revitalization. The schools are mostly in towns and villages.

Enceladus: Rural schools need more help. Right?

Erinome: Exactly! These areas have weaker education. Retired teachers can share their skills there.

Enceladus: Who can apply? Any retired person?

Erinome: Mostly retired school principals, senior teachers, or special-grade teachers. They need to be under 65 years old, love teaching, and have good health.

Enceladus: 65? My grandpa is 65, he’s still active! What will they do in the schools?

Erinome: They can teach classes, of course. But also help young teachers—like listening to their lessons, giving advice, or holding small lectures. Some principals may even be vice-principals to help manage the school.

Enceladus: Oh, so not just teaching, but also guiding others. That’s helpful! How long do they need to work?

Erinome: At least 1 school year. They sign a one-year contract. If they do well, they can stay longer.

Enceladus: What about their benefits? Do they get paid?

Erinome: Yes! Their retirement money stays the same. And the government gives them 20,000 yuan every year. It covers work补贴 (subsidy), travel costs, and accident insurance.

Enceladus: 20,000 yuan per year? That’s a good support! Do they get a place to live?

Erinome: The local education bureau will provide a dorm with basic things—like beds, tables. So they don’t need to worry about housing.

Enceladus: What if they get sick during work?

Erinome: Their medical costs follow their original medical insurance. So no extra trouble there.

Enceladus: Zhejiang and Gansu have more details, right? What’s special about them?

Erinome: Zhejiang wants teachers to focus on class teaching. They can also organize workshops for young teachers. And Gansu’s schools are in some 高海拔 (high altitude) areas, so teachers must be healthy enough to live there.

Enceladus: High altitude areas? That’s tough. But retired teachers with strong bodies can do it!

Erinome: Exactly! And Hebei will hire 415, Sichuan 370. Each province has its own needs.

Enceladus: Why is this plan important?

Erinome: Retired teachers have 30+ years of experience. They know how to teach well and manage classes. Rural students can learn more from them.

Enceladus: And retired people can still work if they want. It’s a win-win!

Erinome: Yes! My neighbor is a retired math teacher. He always says, “I miss the classroom.” Maybe he can apply!

Enceladus: Haha, he should try! Do they need to sign a contract?

Erinome: Yes, one year per contract. Before signing, they must show a 6-month health report. Safety first!

Enceladus: What if they can’t finish the year? Like getting sick?

Erinome: The school will check. If they can’t work, the contract can be ended.

Enceladus: That’s fair. So, how to apply?

Erinome: Retired teachers can contact their local education bureau. Zhejiang and Gansu have already posted the details online.

Enceladus: I hope many teachers join. Rural kids need this!

Erinome: Me too! It’s a good way to use “old wisdom” to help new growth.

Enceladus: Exactly. So, to sum up: retired teachers, under 65, work in rural schools, teach and guide, get 20k/year, dorm, and medical support.

Erinome: Perfect summary! Simple but clear.

Enceladus: Time flies. What do you think, dear listeners? Would you encourage retired teacher friends to join?

Erinome: I think yes! It’s meaningful and helpful. Okay, that’s all for today. Thanks for listening, and see you next time!

Enceladus: Bye!
