A: So, how's the apartment cleanup going? Any update from your landlord?

B: Not yet. They're saying it might take a few more days... Mind if I crash here just a little longer?

A: You know I love having you here, but... as they say, guests, like fish, stink after three days.

B: Whoa. Okay. Tell me how you really feel. I get it, though. I know I've been a bit underfoot. I'll see if I can crash with Megan for a few days.

A: Oh, yeah, good idea! You're always welcome here... just, preferably, in short doses.

1. fish and company

Guests, like fish, begin to stink after three days." That's actually attributed to Benjamin Franklin online. But what's interesting is it's often shortened to either just "fish and company" or we'll say, "You know what they say: fish, company..." and then we know it's implied: they both stink after three days.不要当面说,日后分享故事使用

ex: A:you had good friends visiting from out of town, right? How did that go?
B: Good, but they stayed for two weeks... Fish and company, you're telling me?

2. don't wear out your welcome用在自身得体
Host: "You're welcome to stay another night!"
Guest: "That's so kind of you, but I don't want to wear out my welcome. Are you sure it's no trouble?"

3. Company is like snow; the longer it stays, the more it's in the way. 对雪的麻烦多的地区使用多,新英格兰

A: We‘re staying with my in-laws next month for a while.

B: Oh yeah? How long?

A: Not sure yet. Maybe a week?

B: Well, just be careful not to wear out your welcome. You know what they say: "Company is like snow; the longer it stays, the more it’s in the way."
