1. Describe something interesting you discovered on social media

* the second trial: 02:01

Actually, last week I watched an interesting video compilation on social media regarding Tanghulu — a traditional Chinese snack. What the interesting part is that all videos were posted by foreigners. Some recorded their first time trying it, while others shared step-by-step tutorials on making Tanghulu at home.

Basically, Tanghulu is made by skewering fresh fruits like strawberries or grapes onto a bamboo stick, then coating them in a thin layer of sweet, crispy/crunchy syrup.

Tanghulu went viral on social media a few weeks ago in China, but I have never expected it could be so prevalent among western countries.

I guess the main reasons are that it’s incredibly easy to make — people can have a lot of fun experimenting with different fruits. Besides, Tanghulu is both visually appealing and delicious: it’s something novel and unique to foreigners, so they really went crazy for it.

2. Describe a time when you wait to buy a special thing  04:06

...Several week, I waited for 20 minutes to buy a stick of Tanghulu with milk skin. It's not only a treat for the eyes but also for the taste buds.

3. Describe a famous sportsperson you admire  6:16

Actually, Eileen Gu is the athlete I admire most — she’s a world-class professional skier. Born and raised in the US, she was introduced to skiing by her Chinese mother at a young age. She initially represented the US in international competitions and won numerous gold medals, but since her mother is Chinese and she has deep cultural ties to China, she decided to compete for China at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. There, she not only got multiple gold medals but also set new personal records. That’s actually the year I first knew her.

I really admire her for two main reasons. First, she’s promoted winter sports in China, especially by serving as an inspiring role model for women and young girls. She’s encouraged countless females to pursue their dreams — whether in sports, academics, or their careers — and to never limit themselves based on gender. Second, she’s incredibly diligent and persistent: she’s always pushing herself out of her comfort zone. Now, she successfully juggles three roles: an elite athlete, a full-time student at Stanford University, and a fashion model. What impresses me most is that she excels in every area she pursues.
