Erinome: Hello everyone! Welcome to our weather chat. I'm Erinome, and this is Enceladus. Today we’re talking about December’s wild weather—snow, rain, cold winds, and maybe even a typhoon! Isn’t that busy?

Enceladus: Oh yeah! So many things happening. Let’s start with the first week. I heard from December 3rd to 4th, there’s a big rain and snow event, right?

Erinome: Exactly! Southwest China, like Sichuan and Chongqing, will have moderate rain, even heavy rain in some areas. And North China, like Beijing and Zhangjiakou, might get light snow with strong winds.

Enceladus: Oh no, roads will be wet and slippery. People need to leave early for work then!

Erinome: For sure! And the temperature? So different between north and south. Northeast China, like Heilongjiang and Jilin, their high temperature will be below -10℃. Some places might even hit -20℃!

Enceladus: Wow, that’s freezing! What about the south?

Erinome: South China, like Guangzhou and Haikou, will still be above 20℃. Some places near 25℃. So weird—north people wear thick coats, south people wear light shirts. Haha!

Enceladus: And the winds! I saw northern and eastern coastal areas will have strong winds. Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, even Fujian—gusts up to 7-9 levels. Need to be careful outside!

Erinome: Right! Then, after that, more cold air is coming. The strongest one arrives on December 10th. Big temperature drops—some areas might cool down by 15℃!

Enceladus: 15℃? That’s a huge change! When will the snow and rain come with it?

Erinome: From the 11th to 13th. North China and Northwest China might get heavy snow, even blizzards. South China will have heavy rain too.

Enceladus: Why so much snow? Is there enough water vapor?

Erinome: Yes! Two ways: warm air from the South China Sea and Indian Ocean moves north, and cold air brings water from the Bohai and Yellow Seas. So lots of moisture!

Enceladus: What about the typhoon? The 28th typhoon—will it form?

Erinome: Hmm, not sure yet. There’s a tropical system near the Philippines called 93W. It’s not stable now, but the South China Sea has warm water. Maybe it will grow into a typhoon by mid-December, then go through the Philippines to the South China Sea, and land in Vietnam.

Enceladus: Winter typhoons are rare, right? Why possible now?

Erinome: The sea is still warm enough. But strong winds might stop it from growing. We need to wait and see!

Enceladus: Oh, and December 7th is the “Daxue” solar term, Major Snow. Do you know about it?

Erinome: Yes! It’s the 21st solar term. “Daxue” means big snow—more chance of heavy snow, and colder weather.

Enceladus: What are the “three hou” (three periods) of Daxue?

Erinome: Oh, good question! First, “Hanhao bird stops singing”—the cold makes them quiet. Second, “tigers start mating”—yin is strongest, but yang starts to grow. Third, “Liting grass grows”—a type of orchid sprouts because of yang energy.

Enceladus: That’s interesting! Any traditions for Daxue?

Erinome: People腌肉 (yanrou, salted meat) and sausages. Hang them outside the window—“Not yet New Year, but the屋檐 (wuyan, eaves) is fat”! Also, in the north, people skate on frozen rivers. In the south, maybe eat warm sweet potato porridge.

Enceladus: Yummy! For health, what should we do in Daxue?

Erinome: Sleep early, wake up late—wait for sunlight. Wear warm clothes, especially hats and gloves. Eat warm food like beef,羊肉 (yangrou, mutton), chicken. They keep you warm!

Enceladus: So many weather changes—snow, cold, maybe typhoon, and Daxue traditions. People need to stay updated!

Erinome: Exactly! Check the forecast often, dress right, and stay safe. Whether it’s snow in the north or rain in the south, be careful!

Enceladus: Okay, that’s it for today. Thanks for listening, everyone! Stay warm and dry, and we’ll talk again next time. Bye!

Erinome: Bye!
