1.up and do sth: means you do sth so suddenly spontaneously without thinking about it ahead
Ex:he moved to Chicago because he felt like he needed a change (did it out of a blue)
Ex: she up and decided adopt a puppy and came home with the same day
2.all of a sudden : more common
EX:all of a sudden she jumped out of a car
Ex:it felt like they just met and they were engaged all of a sudden
3.out of nowhere :
EX: he seemed to decide out of nowhere to leave the party
Ex:we thought she would go to the local university but out of nowhere she got a scholarship to UCLA
4.just like that :
Ex:just like that it happened
Ex:just like that she decided not to go out
Ex:she quitted her job and moved to Washington just like that
5.on a whim :very spontaneous
Ex:she booked a flight to Mexico on a whim
Ex:we decided to adopt a cat on a whim even we only went to shelter to volunteer
Role play:
A:we were planning a quiet weekend at home up and bought concert tickets Saturday night
B:oh wow! Super last minute?
A:yeah we were at a dinner and all of a sudden my husband goes let's see if glass animal show isn't sold out!
B:and then there were tickets? that's crazy!
A:i know! We had thought about going but never got tickets, then out of nowhere he pulls out his phone and checks two tickets decent seats and he bought them just like that
B:wow! totally unplanned
A:yeah we never do stuff on a whim like that but it was really fun
