Luna et al. found that Myrf is essential for mesothelium function and lung development. Deleting Myrf causes lung hypoplasia and congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). Without Myrf and Yap/Taz, mesothelial cells transform into ectopic smooth muscle, mimicking adult PPFE.
