Erinome:Hello dear friends! Welcome to our podcast. Today, Enceladus and I are going to chat about a hot topic—2026 public holidays in China. Have you seen the news? It’s everywhere online!

Enceladus:Oh yeah! I saw it this morning. The title was like “All 2026 public holidays connect with weekends!” That sounds interesting. What’s the details?

Erinome:Right! The State Council released the 2026 holiday plan. All big holidays—Spring Festival, Qingming, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn, National Day—they all connect with Saturdays and Sundays naturally. No more “adjust work days” like before!

Enceladus:Wow, really? No more working extra days to get a long holiday? That’s good! I remember last year, we had to work on weekends to “make up” for holidays. So tiring!

Erinome:Exactly! Let me tell you the specific dates. For Yuan Dan (New Year’s Day), it’s Jan 1 (Thursday) to 3 (Saturday), 3 days off.

Enceladus:Oh, Thursday to Saturday? So that’s just connecting Thursday to the weekend. No need to work extra before or after?

Erinome:Yes! And Spring Festival is Feb 15 (Sunday) to 23 (Monday), 9 days off. That’s a long one!

Enceladus:9 days? That’s nice for family trips. What about Qingming Festival?

Erinome:Qingming is April 4 (Saturday) to 6 (Monday), 3 days. Dragon Boat Festival is June 19 (Friday) to 21 (Sunday), 3 days. Mid-Autumn is Sept 25 (Friday) to 27 (Sunday), 3 days.

Enceladus:Oh, so those three are just Friday to Sunday or Saturday to Monday. No adjust days at all! That’s perfect. What about Labor Day and National Day?

Erinome:Labor Day is May 1 (Friday) to 5 (Tuesday), 5 days. National Day is Oct 1 (Thursday) to 7 (Wednesday), 7 days. They still have adjust days, but maybe less than before?

Enceladus:Hmm. Some people must be happy, right? Because no more “work 7 days straight” to get a holiday.

Erinome:Yes! Many netizens said, “I love this! No more adjust work days, my schedule is stable now.” They feel less tired.

Enceladus:But wait, some people might think it’s not good. Like, do we get fewer holidays?

Erinome:No, the total legal holiday days are still 13 days. The “value” didn’t decrease. But some netizens said, “It feels like we didn’t get extra days. Because holidays are on weekends, it’s like we just rest on weekends as usual.”

Enceladus:Oh, I get that. Like, if Mid-Autumn is Friday to Sunday, that’s just a normal weekend plus Friday. So it feels like only 1 extra day, not 3?

Erinome:Exactly! And some people who work 6 days a week or only 2 days off a month are even more upset. One netizen said, “We start work on the 6th day of Spring Festival. We only have 2 days off a month, no social insurance. Why no one talks about us?”

Enceladus:Oh no, that’s sad. Their situation is different. For people with 5-day work weeks, this is good. But for others, maybe not.

Erinome:Right. Some also said, “Short trips will be easier! Because holidays connect with weekends, we can plan earlier, and places won’t be too crowded.”

Enceladus:Haha, that’s true. No more “golden week” crowds? Maybe. But some still joke, “We rest, but not really. The feeling is not the same as having a ‘real’ holiday.”

Erinome:So it’s like a “comfortable rest” year, not a “more rest” year. The total days are same, but the way we rest is better.

Enceladus:I think so. For me, I hate adjust work days. So I’m happy. What about you?

Erinome:Me too! No more working on weekends to “save” holidays. My body will thank me.

Enceladus:But what about people who like long holidays? Like National Day 7 days. Is that still okay?

Erinome:Yes, National Day is still 7 days. It’s just connected with weekends. So maybe the rest is more natural.

Enceladus:Hmm. So overall, it’s a mix of good and “meh” feelings. Some love it, some don’t.

Erinome:Exactly! The key is the “adjust work days” are less. That’s the biggest change.

Enceladus:Right! Before, we had to work extra days, and it made people tired. Now, it’s more “natural.”

Erinome:So, dear listeners, what do you think? Do you like 2026’s holiday plan? Or do you miss the old way?

Enceladus:Let us know in the comments! Okay, that’s it for today. Thanks for listening, and we’ll talk again next time. Bye!

Erinome:Bye!
