July is Disability Pride Month. Born out of a Western context, this concept has become, for some, an antidote to internalized shame — while for others, it exposes real blind spots around class privilege and visually centric culture. In this episode, Renci and Baru are joined by two guests our listeners love — Da Cheng Zi and Kong Ming — for a conversation that moves from unpacking "pride" versus "self respect" in the Chinese language, to reflections on how inclusive (or not) public parades really are, to the tension between individual effort and systemic change. If life is already hard enough, what exactly are we being "proud" of? Is pride a privilege, or a way of redefining ourselves on our own terms? Join us for this honest conversation about the body, identity, and the systems we live within.
