This research article utilizes spatial transcriptomic (ST) profiling to investigate the complex internal landscape of ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC). By examining primary and metastatic tumor samples, the authors identified distinct cancer cell subclusters categorized by their metabolic activity, inflammatory responses, and spatial locations. A significant discovery includes an inverse relationship between oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), suggesting that tumor plasticity is driven by transcriptional changes. The study highlights the importance of the LCN2 protein and SOX9 gene in regulating these transitions and influencing patient outcomes. Ultimately, these findings offer a high-resolution map of intra-tumor heterogeneity, providing new insights into how this rare cancer adapts to its environment and resists treatment.
