[Mike]: Welcome back to Learn English with Podcasts! Sarah, if you fell off your bike and your hand was bleeding, what would you do first?
zh:欢迎回到 Learn English with Podcasts！Sarah，如果你从车上摔下来，手在流血，你第一件事会做什么？
[Sarah]: Call for help, of course. Or at least look at my hand. Why do you ask?
zh:当然是喊人帮忙。至少先看看手。你为什么这么问？
[Mike]: Because a young man in Beijing did something totally different. He crashed his bike, he was bleeding, and his first move was to grab his phone.
zh:因为北京有个小伙子做了完全不同的事。他撞车了，手在流血，第一反应却是去拿手机。
[Sarah]: To call for help? That sounds normal.
zh:是为了打电话求救吗？这听起来很正常。
[Mike]: No. To stay in his video meeting. He kept talking about work while sitting in the middle of the road.
zh:不是。是为了继续开视频会议。他坐在马路中间，还在聊工作。
[Sarah]: Oh wait, you are joking, right? Bleeding, sitting on the road, and still in a meeting?
zh:等等，你在开玩笑吧？流着血、坐在马路上，还在开会？
[Mike]: I wish I were joking. This happened on Kechuang 8th Street in Tongzhou, Beijing. A van stopped on the side of the road for just a few minutes.
zh:真希望是玩笑。这事发生在北京通州科创八街。一辆面包车临时停在路边，才停了几分钟。
[Sarah]: The driver was just checking the address, right? And then — bang?
zh:司机只是在确认地址，对吧？然后——砰的一声？
[Mike]: Exactly. The young man was riding a shared e-bike. He rode straight into the back of the van and hit the tail light. He fell hard to the ground.
zh:没错。小伙子骑着一辆共享电动车，直直撞上那辆面包车的车尾，撞碎了车灯，重重摔在地上。
[Sarah]: That sounds painful. Was he badly hurt?
zh:听起来很疼。他伤得重吗？
[Mike]: His right hand was cut by the broken light. It kept bleeding. He used tissue after tissue. He could hardly lift his arm.
zh:他的右手被碎车灯划伤了，血流不止。纸巾换了一张又一张，胳膊疼得几乎抬不起来。
[Sarah]: And still he did not stop the meeting? Even with that much blood?
zh:流了这么多血，他还没停下会议？
[Mike]: Still did not stop. He sat cross-legged in the road, eyes locked on his phone. You could hear the meeting on speaker. He was discussing work and giving numbers like nothing had happened.
zh:就是没停。他盘腿坐在马路中间，死死盯着手机。外放的会议声听得很清楚，他还在讨论工作、报数据，好像什么都没发生。
[Sarah]: Oh, that reminds me of the word distracted. It means your mind is somewhere else, not on what you are doing. He was totally distracted.
zh:哦，这让我想起 distracted 这个词，就是注意力跑到别处，没放在正在做的事上。他完全走神了。
[Mike]: Totally. The driver was shocked. He said, the first thing the young man wanted after falling was his phone, not help, not questions about the crash.
zh:完全走神。司机都看蒙了。他说，小伙摔倒后第一件事是要手机，不是要帮忙，也不问事故情况。
[Sarah]: The driver tried to talk to him about the crash, right? What happened?
zh:司机想跟他沟通事故情况，对吧？结果呢？
[Mike]: The driver said he got no answer at all. The young man just ignored him and kept working online.
zh:司机说完全得不到回应。小伙子全程不理他，只顾着线上对接工作。
[Sarah]: That is hard to believe. Did the cameras catch the full story?
zh:真让人难以相信。监控拍到全过程了吗？
[Mike]: Yes. The video shows he rode straight ahead the whole time, eyes on the meeting. Zero observation. No slowing down, no turning, no warning. He just rode straight into a parked van.
zh:拍到了。视频显示他一路直行，注意力全在会议上。全程零观察。没有减速，没有避让，没有预判，就直直撞上了停着的车。
[Sarah]: One second of looking away, and everything changes. What did the doctors say?
zh:走神一秒，一切都变了。医生怎么说？
[Mike]: The medics found a large deep cut on his hand. He needed to go to the hospital for stitches right away. And guess what — his meeting was still on, even when they helped him into the ambulance.
zh:医护人员发现他手上伤口面积大、比较深，得立刻去医院缝合。你猜怎么着——即使被扶上救护车，他的会议都没断。
[Sarah]: Wow. So who was at fault? The van was parked illegally, right?
zh:哇。那责任怎么判？面包车是违法停车，对吧？
[Mike]: Right. In the end, the police said the rider took main responsibility. That is a useful phrase. Main responsibility means he made the bigger mistake.
zh:对。最后交警判定，小伙负主要责任。这是个有用的表达。Main responsibility 就是说他犯了更大的错。
[Sarah]: Because he was not watching the road and did not ride safely. And the van driver?
zh:因为他没看路、没有安全通行。那面包车司机呢？
[Mike]: The van driver took secondary responsibility for illegal parking. So both were wrong, but distraction was the main cause.
zh:面包车司机因违法停车负次要责任。所以双方都有错，但分心是主因。
[Sarah]: I understand working adults have pressure. We all want to save time and not miss work. But riding a bike while in a meeting? That is too much.
zh:我理解成年人的压力。大家都想省时间、不耽误工作。但骑车还开会？这太过了。
[Mike]: Exactly. And he is not alone. Many people use every small gap to work. Riding and meeting, walking and texting, driving and handling tasks. It looks hard-working, but it is very dangerous.
zh:没错。而且他不是个例。很多人把每段碎片时间都用来工作。骑车开会，走路回消息，开车处理工作。看似敬业，其实非常危险。
[Sarah]: There is no luck on the road. One distracted second can mean a crash and a trip to the hospital.
zh:道路上没有侥幸。分心一秒，就可能是一场事故、一次去医院。
[Mike]: Work can be redone. Meetings can be moved. But safety has no second chance. That line really stayed with me.
zh:工作可以重做。会议可以改期。但安全没有重来的机会。这句话真的让我感慨。
[Sarah]: You know what stays with me? He stared at a tiny screen the whole ride, and missed a whole van right in front of him.
zh:你知道让我印象最深的是什么吗？他一路盯着小小的手机屏幕，却没看见眼前整整一辆面包车。
