According to Readhub, at 1 a.m. Beijing time on September 15, Apple officially began rolling out iOS 27, while also launching watchOS 27, iPadOS 27, and visionOS 27. Reports say macOS Golden Gate (macOS 27) and other major systems arrived alongside them. The core highlight of the iOS, watchOS, iPadOS, and visionOS updates is Siri AI—the previously delayed full AI upgrade for the Siri assistant. iOS 27 is one of iPhone’s larger software upgrades in recent years. It continues the Liquid Glass design, strengthens Siri AI, and makes multiple changes to system apps such as Photos and Messages, adding new AI features and parental controls while optimizing performance. The system supports the iPhone 11 series and later models, plus the second-generation iPhone SE, but some Apple Intelligence features have higher hardware requirements: the new Siri AI requires iPhone 15 Pro and later, and some features require iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone Air, and are subject to language and region restrictions. Siri AI is currently available as a beta only for English-language devices. Apple says support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish will roll out in October. After being rebuilt, Siri can use Apple Intelligence models to access on-device information and perform actions. It can also search the web, understand screen information, and operate within supported apps. Users can ask Siri to find personal information from Mail, Messages, Notes, Reminders, Calendar, and Photos, and ask about content mentioned in earlier conversations. On the interface side, Liquid Glass adds transparency adjustment, allowing users to switch between clear and frosted interfaces, with adjusted contrast for menus and navigation bars. The Lock Screen supports generative fill and expansion for photos, Image Playground-generated wallpapers, and a new smaller clock layout. The Home Screen supports larger widgets and allows separate volume settings for ringtones, alarms, timers, reminder notifications, and system alerts. The Photos app adds AI features such as Clean Up, Extend, and Reframe, supports saving a single video frame as a photo, and lets users add keywords and ratings. Safari adds Theme Organization, Resume Browsing, and Notify Me. Several system apps, including Apple Music and Weather, also get updates. The Passwords app can automatically update compromised passwords. Calendar and Reminders support natural-language creation. Phone adds Call Context. FaceTime improves call quality. AirPods and CarPlay add related features. For older iPhones, iOS 27 optimizes system performance: app launch speeds on iPhone 11 Pro Max improve by up to 30%, AirDrop transfers and other speeds by up to 80%, and more robust parental controls are added. watchOS 27 adds Workout Buddy, a tap gesture, optimizes Liquid Glass effects, brings Smart Stack widget recommendations, and upgrades the Find My app. iPad improves file transfer speeds with external storage, optimizes browser performance, and improves Wi-Fi and cellular switching. visionOS 27 brings a revamped Siri AI to Apple Vision Pro, supports Eye Preview notifications, updates the Control Center interface, improves Wi-Fi connectivity, and allows panoramic photos to be used as immersive scenes and spatial environments.

According to cnBeta, Business Insider and several other media outlets, citing internal sources and official information, report that Google recently adjusted its internal policy. Through Antigravity, its in-house development platform, it has granted all engineers access to Anthropic’s top coding model, Opus 5. Previously, Google had long prohibited most employees from using external third-party coding tools such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, requiring internal development work to prioritize its own Gemini large model. Claude access was limited to a few specific teams; several core R&D teams under DeepMind had been granted access for some time, and many engineers had already used it in development workflows for multiple high-priority engineering projects. Under the new rules, all Google engineers can access Opus 5 on the internal Antigravity platform. Usage is centrally governed by the platform, and there will be no data leakage. As one of Anthropic’s core investors, Google earlier this year announced plans to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic cumulatively. This access opening is the latest move in their deep cooperation. A Google spokesperson responded that engineers can use vetted third-party models on the internal Antigravity platform, a design logic fully consistent with Google’s commercial Antigravity product for external enterprises. Gemini remains the core primary foundation model for Google’s internal development work. All third-party models will be managed under user quotas and used only to support specific niche scenarios Gemini cannot cover. Claude’s position in the internal system is always a supplementary tool to Gemini, not a replacement. The core goal of opening access to all employees is to further improve engineers’ development efficiency. Foreign media say this policy adjustment indirectly confirms that global competition in AI programming has entered a white-hot stage. Although Google has invested billions of dollars in iterating the Gemini large model and recently launched the performance-upgraded Gemini Flash 3.8, multiple internal engineers report that its coding ability still has a clear gap with comparable products from Anthropic and OpenAI. Google is not the first tech giant to make such an adjustment. Earlier this year, Amazon, after receiving substantial employee feedback, also officially opened access, allowing internal engineers to use Claude and OpenAI Codex as development assistants.

According to The Verge, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, while onstage at the All-In Podcast’s All-In Summit on Monday local time, received a phone call from U.S. President Donald Trump and put it on speakerphone in front of a large audience. The report said this was not the first time Huang had taken a presidential call at work, but this time he put the call on speaker for the live crowd. During the call, Trump discussed recent concerns about AI development, calling such concerns a “hoax” and telling the audience, “Robots are not going to take over.”

The call came during a week already packed with AI news. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published a long essay over the weekend titled “We Must Slow Down the Frontier,” arguing for slowing AI development and promoting coordination among governments. The essay prompted responses from many AI executives, who generally agreed with his view. But Trump pushed back in a Truth Social post on Monday and repeated parts of the post at the All-In Summit. Trump also talked about data centers, claiming some communities would “die” without data centers and that these communities are now “very rich,” though he did not provide specifics.

Huang did not push back on Trump. He said: “We will make sure everyone wins in the U.S. AI race. Every industry, every company, every state, every person.” Huang also told Trump he was speaking to “thousands” of people. The report said a recording of Trump’s appearance was posted on X, where all his comments can be heard.

According to cnBeta, Alphabet’s self-driving unit Waymo, Japanese ride-hailing app operator GO Inc., and taxi company Nihon Kotsu announced Tuesday that they plan to launch Japan’s first fully autonomous commercial taxi service in Tokyo in 2027. In a joint statement, the three parties said the service will start with a small fleet. After regulatory approval and continued validation of Waymo’s technology and operating model, the fleet will expand to about 100 vehicles, covering major areas of Tokyo. Once approved and fully validated, the vehicles will be driverless, and passengers will be able to book through both the GO and Waymo apps. At a joint press conference in Tokyo, Waymo co-CEO Mawakana said that from day one, this will be a public-facing driverless service. The company will responsibly expand the fleet until anyone in Tokyo can download the app and ride the service. Waymo began collecting data in Tokyo in 2025 using human-driven Jaguar I-PACE vehicles, its first operations on public roads outside the United States. Since then, its vehicles have completed local road learning under the supervision of trained Nihon Kotsu onboard staff, able to autonomously drive on narrow neighborhood roads and safely navigate dense crowds. Field testing and data accumulation have continued over the past year. The three parties said the service will combine Waymo’s autonomous driving technology, the GO platform’s user reach, and Nihon Kotsu’s nearly 100 years of taxi operating experience to create all-weather on-demand mobility. In the future, users can hail a fully driverless vehicle after late-night subway service ends or after a business meeting, and can use the GO taxi app to hail both traditional taxis and Waymo driverless vehicles at the same time. GO President Hiroshi Nakajima said that since the partnership was announced in December 2024, the three parties and relevant stakeholders have steadily advanced preparations, and the service will launch as a fully commercial offering. Waymo says it currently completes more than 500,000 trips per week, with safety proven to be more than 15 times that of human drivers; it has provided fully autonomous commercial rides in 15 major U.S. cities, completing tens of millions of commercial trips cumulatively. Japan is one of the markets where Waymo plans to launch robotaxi service first outside the United States. The three parties also said the service can help ease Japan’s driver shortage and its broader population decline. Japanese automaker Nissan has separately partnered with UK startup Wayve and Uber to develop robotaxis.

According to cnBeta, ECB President Christine Lagarde warned in Vienna on September 14 that Europe is highly dependent on external suppliers for AI models, computing power, and infrastructure. If access to relevant services is withdrawn or terms of use change, the impact could hit customs, tax, transport, healthcare, and bank payments at the same time. She called on Europe to accelerate data center construction and develop models that can run on domestic infrastructure. Lagarde noted that in 2025, the United States launched 59 representative AI models, China launched 35, and France and the UK each launched one; the U.S. has about 75% of global AI compute, while Europe accounts for only 5%. In her view, Europe’s adoption of AI is largely equivalent to importing the relevant technology. Losses from supply cuts of traditional critical goods are usually concentrated in certain industries, but once AI is widely used in public services and economic activity, external suppliers withdrawing model access or modifying licensing terms could hit multiple industries at once and become a pressure tool in trade or digital tax negotiations. European companies also need to feed business data into models governed by the laws of other countries. An EU statistical survey shows that nearly half of companies that considered adopting AI but ultimately abandoned it cited data protection as a reason. Lagarde said Europe’s existing data center capacity can no longer meet its own needs. Research commissioned by the European Commission shows Europe’s data center capacity gap is about 3 gigawatts in 2025, and under a baseline scenario could rise to about 20 gigawatts by 2036, more than a sixfold increase. Based on high-density AI data center construction costs, the funding needed to fill the gap over the next decade could reach up to 600 billion euros, including chip spending. She proposed that Europe first needs to expand domestic computing capacity, second needs to develop a group of models that can run on European infrastructure and meet most application needs, while maintaining access to the most advanced models. Open-weight models can reduce dependence, but developers can still stop releasing new versions or change license terms, so supply risk cannot be fully eliminated. The EU’s “AI Continent Action Plan” proposes mobilizing 20 billion euros through the InvestAI program, building up to five AI gigafactories, and tripling EU data center capacity over the next five to seven years. The facilities would mainly be used to train and deploy complex models, and are expected to be four times the size of existing AI factories. The European Commission launched a formal tender in July 2026, with the first projects planned to begin construction in 2027. An earlier call for expressions of interest received 77 proposals from 60 locations across 16 member states. Lagarde believes existing gigafactories can only fill part of the gap. Europe also needs to provide long-term capital for data center and model companies through stock markets, reducing innovation projects’ sole reliance on bank loans. She also stressed the economic necessity of accelerating AI adoption: the ECB estimates that if deployment is fast enough, AI can raise euro area productivity by up to 4% within a decade; in 2026, euro area firms plan to allocate about 10% of investment to AI, and the share of employees using AI at work has doubled in two years to more than 50%.

According to TechWeb, on September 15, ByteDance CEO Liang Rubo said at a public event that after large-model Agent capabilities entered a usable stage at the end of last year, AI’s deployment in productivity scenarios clearly accelerated. He believes Agents do not exist in isolation; they need to collaborate with people, the work environment, and other Agents. Agent capabilities are also closely tied to model capabilities, so Agents, models, and collaboration environments must be tightly integrated to truly deliver value. Based on this judgment, ByteDance completed an organizational restructuring two months ago, integrating Doubao, Feishu, and Volcano Engine to focus on building high-quality work and productivity products. The company will invest more resources and effort to make intelligence create value in enterprise organizations faster. Liang explained that from the customer usage logic, Doubao Work provides intelligence, while Feishu, as a collaboration platform, carries enterprise context and tools. Combined, every employee can use AI naturally and efficiently in work scenarios. If enterprises need to build their own dedicated Agents, Volcano Engine can provide models, compute, and development tools to turn unique enterprise experience into their own Agents. These Agents can also connect to Feishu and collaborate with people and other Agents. He stressed that AI’s impact is enormous. Enterprises all hope to use AI to grow rather than be disrupted, which requires systematic change in how work is done—far beyond simply using one set of tools. This year marks the tenth anniversary of Feishu being established within ByteDance. Liang was the technical lead in its early days. He recalled that when the global version of Feishu was released in April 2019, he posted on WeChat Moments: “This is the product I’ve held back the longest at ByteDance so far.” Making a to-C product usually takes three months from project approval to launch, while Feishu took three years. He said office collaboration, as the most basic enterprise need, has been a core application since the PC era and is recreated with every technological shift. Take Microsoft: from Office to Office 365 to Teams, office software has developed well through the past three technological shifts, and its market position is even more stable than operating systems. Over the past 10 years, Feishu has greatly helped ByteDance itself and many outstanding customers with office collaboration. This round of AI change is huge, and the office collaboration field will see a qualitative leap. He hopes Feishu will fully seize the opportunity in the AI era. Liang also shared his thoughts on ByteDance’s annual keyword this year, “Climb the Peak.” He said that over the past 50 years, the IT industry has seen four industrial peaks: PC, Web, mobile internet, and today’s AI. By comparison, the AI peak will be much higher. “What I emphasize with the team is that peaks are rare. In the past, each was 15 to 20 years apart. The opportunity is precious, so we must climb the peak.”

According to TechWeb, Cailian Press learned from people familiar with the matter that Huawei and Seres’ Smart Selection car cooperation model is about to undergo a key adjustment, with the partnership switching to an asset-light model this week. Operational leadership for the AITO brand’s products, marketing, sales, and service will be transferred from Huawei to Seres, with Huawei becoming a technology enabler. After the new model takes effect, Seres will fully lead AITO brand operations, including product planning, channel management, and user service. Huawei will divest front-end heavy operational investment, no longer making heavy asset investments and full-chain operations, and instead serve as a technology supplier, continuously providing AITO with full intelligent vehicle technology solutions such as HarmonyOS Cockpit and ADS advanced intelligent driving. Under the previous Smart Selection model, Huawei was deeply involved in AITO’s product definition, marketing strategy, store sales, and user service across the entire chain, while Seres mainly handled vehicle manufacturing. This means the classic Smart Selection paradigm of “Huawei-led, Seres-manufactured,” which ran for years, has officially turned the page. The core logic behind this adjustment is resource reallocation within HIMA (HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility Alliance). In the future, Huawei will focus resources on accelerating the success of Luxeed, Stelato, Maextro, and Shangjie, further solidifying HIMA’s industry and market position. At present, HIMA has formed a five-brand matrix: AITO (Seres), Luxeed (Chery), Stelato (BAIC), Maextro (JAC), and Shangjie (SAIC), with cumulative deliveries across the lineup exceeding 1.52 million units. AITO, as the first brand to achieve success, has completed its historical mission of helping Huawei establish its reputation. Luxeed, Stelato, Maextro, and Shangjie are still in their ramp-up phase, and Huawei needs to direct its sharpest product definition capabilities and marketing resources to the other brands.
