According to CNBC, Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter, above StreetAccount's estimate of 461,100 and the company's own expectation of 461,974; the stock rose about 2% after the news. Deliveries fell about 2% year over year from 497,099 in the same period last year, but rose sequentially from 480,126 in the second quarter. Tesla did not break down deliveries by model or region, but said Model 3 and Model Y accounted for 98%. In the same period, energy storage deployments reached 13.7 GWh, including Megapack and Megablock systems, up from 12.5 GWh a year earlier and 13.5 GWh in the previous quarter. Tesla is facing competition from Chinese automakers such as BYD and Xiaomi and is trying to recover from consecutive annual sales declines; the U.S. federal EV tax credit ended on September 30, 2025. As of Tuesday's close, its shares were down 21% this year, underperforming big tech peers. Morgan Stanley analysts said the quarter faced "difficult comparisons" both year over year and sequentially, and that second-quarter deliveries exceeded production by about 28,000 vehicles.

CNBC reports that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday that September nonfarm payrolls rose by just 29,000 after seasonal adjustment, far below the Dow Jones estimate of 84,000, while the unemployment rate rose to 4.2% versus the expected 4.1%. August job gains were revised down to 133,000, and July swung from a gain to a decline of 10,000, for a combined 60,000 reduction from previous estimates. After the release, U.S. stock futures jumped, and Treasury yields fell after recently rising to their highest levels since the early part of this century; CME showed the probability of the Fed holding steady at its October 27–28 meeting rose to 82.8%. Jefferies' Simons said this should rule out an October rate hike; the August payroll surge was just a rebound from weak hiring in June and July. The household survey was stronger: household employment rose by 406,000 in September, the labor force grew by 485,000, and the labor force participation rate rose 0.2 percentage points to 61.8%, the highest since May; the broader unemployment rate fell to 7.6%, the lowest since January 2025. The Fed already hiked by 25 basis points in September, and the market expects the next hike may have to wait until December. Officials are paying more attention to the unemployment rate and believe inflation poses a greater threat than the labor market.

According to CNBC, Novartis signed a licensing agreement with China's Abogen worth up to $7.8 billion. Novartis will pay $575 million upfront for global rights to an early-stage experimental mRNA therapy for autoimmune diseases, plus up to $7.2 billion in milestone payments, and will have an exclusive option to license assets developed on Abogen's RNA platform. China is seen as a source for Western drugmakers looking for their next blockbuster, as blockbuster patents face a "patent cliff" in the early 2030s. Novartis shares last month saw their biggest drop since 1987 after setbacks in multiple clinical trials, raising questions about its drug development capabilities. Sidley partner Ruchun Ji told CNBC that licensing deals can lower risk for big pharma, since they can be terminated if a drug underperforms or R&D priorities change; for Chinese companies, upfront and milestone payments provide funding and support local development. Earlier this week, Novo Nordisk reached an exclusive licensing deal worth up to $2.6 billion with Hengrui Pharmaceuticals; in mid-September, GSK acquired a blood cancer drug from Chimagen for up to $750 million.

CNBC reports that crypto exchange Bitget suffered a cyberattack last week, with nearly $388 million stolen and about $1.1 million frozen. CEO Gracy Chen said the frozen assets have not necessarily been returned, and she did not disclose the amount recovered; because recoveries from past exchange hacks have been limited, she does not expect a large amount to be recovered, but exchanges should show how they protect users. Bitget said user balances were unaffected. Its protection fund stood at more than $464 million before the hack, fell to below $200 million after the hack according to Bloomberg calculations, and later recovered to more than $300 million. Chen said the fund was replenished with its own money, is verifiable on-chain, is separate from customer reserves, and that losses would not be passed on to users. A September 29 proof-of-reserves report showed a self-reported reserve ratio of 131%, with all 19 assets above 100%. On September 30, reports from Mandiant and SlowMist said attackers compromised two third-party security products and entered the production wallet system; the earliest malicious activity traced back to an August 31 zero-day vulnerability, giving attackers privileged internal access, allowing them to bypass normal withdrawals, though no private keys were stolen. Chen said the methods were sophisticated and that the attackers deleted traces, hindering the investigation. The reports did not identify the products or attribute the attack to North Korea; Chen said preliminary indicators were highly consistent with North Korean hacking groups. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT withdrawals have resumed, while other cryptocurrencies, fiat, and P2P are scheduled to resume on Friday.
