[Mike]: Welcome back to Learn English with Podcasts! Sarah, what if the president bans the word AI?

zh:欢迎回到 Learn English with Podcasts!

[Sarah]: Bans a word? Mike, you cannot ban a word. People say AI every day. Is this a joke?

[Mike]: It is real. Trump just signed an executive order. An executive order means an official rule from the president. Its name is Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence.

[Sarah]: Super Intelligence? So from now on, the US government must say SI, not AI?

[Mike]: Exactly. Detail one is strict. All government departments must drop Artificial Intelligence and AI in official letters, websites, reports, policy papers, and press releases. They must use Super Intelligence or SI.

[Sarah]: That is a total ban. What did the White House fact sheet say?

[Mike]: It used a very strong phrase: no longer recognize. It means the government will no longer recognize the word AI. If you are a federal official and still say AI in public, you break the rule.

[Sarah]: Wow. What about all the old files with AI in them? That is a huge pile of paper.

[Mike]: Detail two is practical. Old files stay as they are. No need to change the past. Only future writing must use SI. That saves a lot of work for the huge bureaucracy.

[Sarah]: Okay, that makes sense. But what does SI even mean? I thought super intelligence was a far-future dream.

[Mike]: Great question. That is detail three, the most important one. For now, SI temporarily uses the old legal definition of AI. But the science advisor must submit a brand-new definition of SI within 60 days.

[Sarah]: 60 days to write a new definition? That new definition will decide a lot, right?

[Mike]: Yes. It will decide regulation, money support, and export rules for the next ten years. In textbooks, the ladder is clear. ANI is weak AI like Siri. AGI is human-level AI that OpenAI is chasing. ASI is beyond the smartest human brains.

[Sarah]: So Trump just skipped the middle step? He jumped straight to the top level?

[Mike]: Exactly. People call it an official early start. The government now uses the top word for today's broad AI.

[Sarah]: Why? Just because Super sounds nicer than Artificial?

[Mike]: That is part of it. At the UN meeting last week, Trump said Super is the best word, the simplest word. Artificial sounds like fake news, fake and dangerous. Super sounds like superhero or supercomputer: strong and positive.

[Sarah]: Artificial equals fake news. That is very Trump. But is this only about words?

[Mike]: No. On the same day, Trump held a lunch at the White House. Half of the tech world came. Next to him sat two most powerful men: Jensen Huang of Nvidia and Elon Musk of Tesla and SpaceX. Trump called it very productive and extremely friendly.

[Sarah]: What did they talk about? Money?

[Mike]: One word: relax the rules. Trump said the industry should have strong self-regulation. Self-regulation means companies control themselves. He said the DOJ and FBI are enough for the worst crimes. For the rest, just build.

[Sarah]: Tech bosses must love that. After years of strict safety checks, someone finally says just build.

[Mike]: Yes. Trump said it will largely be used for good, and we will stop bad uses. You see, SI stresses power, not risk.

[Sarah]: Was there a funny moment at that lunch?

[Mike]: Yes. Musk said AI out of habit, then fixed it to SI in 1 second. Trump said thanks right away and patted him. Everyone laughed.

[Sarah]: Good reflexes. Anything about electricity? Data centers use so much power and water.

[Mike]: You read my mind. New data centers face local pushback. Pushback means people nearby say no. They use too much power, water, and land. Trump backed the tech firms. He said they will make communities happy with resources and money.

[Sarah]: And then he said data centers will be very popular?

[Mike]: His exact words. With the president helping with local fights, Nvidia can sell more chips, and builders can build faster.

[Sarah]: What about Congress? Did anyone there agree?

[Mike]: Yes. House Speaker Mike Johnson spoke on September 29 with the same message. He said the old fearful word Artificial cannot define key tech. America must lead in the SI era and cut red tape. Red tape means too many complex rules.

[Sarah]: So it is not one man's idea. It is a shared plan: less fear, fewer rules, more data centers.

[Mike]: And three hidden goals. One, kill fear. AI reminds people of Terminator and Skynet. SI sounds like a human tool, like a superhero.

[Sarah]: Two, control the words the world uses? If you sign deals with the US government, you must write SI?

[Mike]: Exactly. And three, justify huge spending. If it is called Super, then super data centers and super power bills all sound normal.

[Sarah]: Wow. Change one word, change the game. So if I say AI in America, will police catch me?

[Mike]: Only if you work for the government. For us, both words are fine. But here is the funny part: the government banned the word Artificial, yet the most artificial thing in the room was the new name itself.

[Sarah]: Haha, that says it all. Thanks for listening to Learn English with Podcasts. Do you prefer AI or SI? Tell us, and see you next time.

感谢收听 Learn English with Podcasts。
