According to VentureBeat, OpenAI has released frontier model GPT-6 Astra, saying it may mark the beginning of the AGI era—highly autonomous systems that surpass humans on most economically valuable work. Co-founder and President Greg Brockman said, "Welcome to the AGI era." OpenAI calls Astra "the world's best computer-use model," able to operate browsers, spreadsheets, websites, and desktop apps like a human, with users able to go without a mouse and keyboard. It can fill out forms, update CRMs, schedule calendars, draft emails, and operate spreadsheets, Python notebooks, Power BI, and engineering software. Brockman believes computer-use agents can bypass some API integrations. Starting Thursday, Astra will roll out to enterprise customers through the limited-access Daybreak program, as well as to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise customers, and will be available through the OpenAI API and via AWS and Azure.

According to CNBC, Nvidia shares rose 1.3% on Friday, notching their first record close since May and pushing the Nasdaq 100 to a record high. Nvidia accounts for 13% of the Nasdaq 100 and 8% of the S&P 500. The rally ended seven weeks of sideways trading, during which the market was focused on Trump's meetings with several corporate executives about what he calls "superintelligence."
Nvidia's market cap is currently just under $5.7 trillion. Based on market-maker pricing for options expiring this week and on Oct. 30, the probability that Nvidia tops $6 trillion by the end of this month is about 50%; the probability it does so this week is 13%, and the probability by Dec. 18 is about 67%. The options market also implies about a one-in-sixteen chance that Nvidia touches $7 trillion by Nov. 20. At its current share count, Nvidia would need to hit $248 to cross the $6 trillion mark.
Highline Asset Management Managing Director Ben Emmons noted in a report that Nvidia's buyback announcement was a highlight—not just a payout, but a capital allocation event that demonstrates confidence in long-term AI demand. Barchart data shows implied volatility on some Nvidia calls is higher than on corresponding puts; this "call skew" suggests traders are inclined to hedge upside risk.

Sina Tech, citing tech reporter Mark Gurman's column, reports that Apple's new CEO John Ternus has made design a priority in his first few weeks. He has delegated finance operations to CFO Kevan Parekh and the supply chain to COO Sabih Khan, while immersing himself in product engineering and design. He visits the design studio multiple times a week and is seen as Apple's final decision-maker on design. Since Jony Ive left in 2019, Apple's industrial design and human interface design have long lacked a unified leader; after Jeff Williams retired last year, the design team has effectively reported to Ternus. The team had previously suffered significant departures: Alan Dye jumped to Meta, Evans Hankey joined OpenAI, and Hankey was later succeeded by Molly Anderson. Apple did not look externally for a chief design officer, instead working to raise the profiles of Anderson and Steve Lemay during the iPhone Duo launch, and last week it also hired Belgian furniture designer Julien Renault. On the product front, the iPhone Duo ships on Oct. 23. Apple plans to hold an event on Oct. 13 to unveil a smart home hub with a screen, a new HomePod mini, and an updated Apple TV, all centered on Siri AI. The new OLED iPad mini is expected to launch between late October and November; the redesigned MacBook Pro will introduce OLED and a touchscreen for the first time and be lighter, is being tested with macOS 27.2, and is expected to launch before next month. Ternus is looking to accelerate product development and cut costs to offset the impact of a slowdown in the services business.

Sina Tech reports, citing people familiar with the matter, that Broadcom's Wall Street underwriting syndicate is preparing to raise $60 billion in new AI chip financing, with beneficiaries including Anthropic and other companies. Several banks are about to issue underwriting invitations for $42 billion in Class A senior secured debt; Blackstone is leading $18 billion in Class B subordinated debt, with multiple Blackstone funds committing $9 billion and the rest planned for external distribution. A Broadcom spokesperson declined to comment. Broadcom hopes to use this to expand sales of chips and data center equipment and challenge Nvidia; AI companies such as Anthropic need to keep scaling up compute. People familiar with the matter said in August that if the deal closes, Anthropic and others will have easier access to chips and other critical AI infrastructure. This is an addition to the hundreds of billions of dollars in AI infrastructure debt already raised. In August, Nvidia also announced a partnership with six major financial institutions, including Blackstone, aiming to mobilize more than $500 billion for AI, including helping customers finance purchases of Nvidia chips.

According to Readhub, Schneider Electric is nearing a roughly $20 billion acquisition of U.S. engineering software provider PTC, with an agreement potentially announced as soon as Monday. Talks are still ongoing, and the final deal is not yet certain. If completed, it would be the French industrial group's largest acquisition ever, far exceeding its $11 billion purchase of Aveva in 2023. The report says the acquisition would strengthen Schneider's software solutions capabilities for manufacturers, with PTC's products complementing capabilities it previously gained through the Aveva acquisition. Software industry M&A activity has slowed significantly, and the deal would rank among the larger cross-border transactions of 2026. Schneider has continued to advance its related acquisition strategy in recent years, completing two related acquisitions this year, and its business has also benefited from the AI data center boom. Neither company has responded to requests for comment.

According to cnBeta, citing the South China Morning Post, on Oct. 5, Huawei and Qualcomm announced a multi-year broad patent licensing agreement covering 5G, computing, AI, and networking, among other fields. This is the first time Qualcomm has paid Huawei for licensing and purchased patents. The agreement includes cross-licensing of patent portfolios and Qualcomm's purchase of some Huawei U.S. patents. It is the two sides' first 5G licensing agreement and Huawei's first "revenue-positive" agreement with Qualcomm. The deal is subject to regulatory approval. Huawei said it does not involve other business cooperation, and the amount was not disclosed. In 2020, the two resolved a patent dispute, with Huawei paying Qualcomm $1.8 billion in historical licensing fees. Qualcomm said the agreement recognizes Huawei's innovation and intellectual property in 5G and other fields; Huawei said the agreement reflects the value of its innovation, and both sides will follow FRAND principles. Huawei said its cumulative R&D investment from 2007 to the end of 2025 exceeded 1.8 trillion yuan; after the signing, its total patent licensing agreements exceeded $6.9 billion, and that figure is not the amount of this transaction. As of the end of 2025, Huawei had more than 165,000 valid granted patents worldwide, over 90% of which are invention patents.

Readhub reports that a video of a passenger's finger being caught in the door of a Pony.ai driverless vehicle has drawn attention. Pony.ai responded that the incident occurred when a companion of the passenger accidentally caught the passenger's finger while manually closing the door. After the incident, the company immediately assisted with handling it and cooperated with the traffic police investigation. After reviewing the full video, the traffic police determined that it was an accident, not a traffic accident. The company helped the passenger seek medical treatment promptly; after examination, the passenger was not seriously hurt and has returned home to rest. Pony.ai said it will continue to follow up and provide necessary support.
