According to Readhub, Google DeepMind released its new-generation flagship model, Gemini 4 Argon, on September 30. Koray Kavukcuoglu, Senior Vice President and Chief AI Architect at Google DeepMind, wrote an introduction to the model, nearly 10 months after the previous Gemini 3 series. The model targets real-world software engineering, enterprise knowledge work such as law and finance, and cybersecurity defense. Officially, it scored 77.9% on DeepSWE v1.1, higher than Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra; it ranked first on the Vals Index with 68.90% and fourth on RSI. Its output token cap has been raised to 1 million, with promotional pricing at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens; cached input tokens are 95% cheaper than the input price. Argon is currently available only to trusted cybersecurity defenders through the Fairwind Program and is participating in the U.S. government's voluntary pre-release model access process. Google says it will gradually expand access, later reaching developers, enterprises, and consumers. In an internal case, an Argon agent rewrote 32,000 lines of SIMD code, making a memory-safe video decoder 2.7 times faster than the original Rust port, with identical output and performance approaching an optimized C++ version.

According to The Verge, OpenAI released a batch of solutions to long-standing mathematical problems generated by an undisclosed frontier model, totaling 722 manuscripts and covering 372 result families. AGMAI, a newly formed independent mathematician advisory group, says the collection includes solutions to "hundreds" of open problems. In September, OpenAI said its models had "solved more than 100 long-standing open problems across most areas of mathematics." Details include model reasoning summaries, compute estimates, and statistics on the number of problems attempted; OpenAI says the "average result" is equivalent to ChatGPT Pro thinking for three hours. In late September, AGMAI recommended that the results be released promptly through academic channels, with disclosure of model names, prompts, and compute costs, and that they not be treated as a marketing tool for promoting models. OpenAI says it is publishing them on GitHub, with a revision and citation protocol, and is exploring community hosting options; future improvements will focus on citation, exposition, and presentation. It will take time for mathematicians to evaluate and digest the results. The results add to the rapidly growing mathematical output of OpenAI and labs such as Anthropic, including a result related to a Millennium Prize Problem; the speed at which AI labs are entering the field and the way they announce results have sparked intense debate over research practices, ethics, and how to credit human mathematicians.

cnBeta news: SpaceX, owned by Musk, is seeking $40 billion in financing led by Apollo Global Management to buy Nvidia chips. People familiar with the matter say the financing includes about $10 billion in bank loans and $30 billion in investment-grade bonds. Pimco is one of the potential lenders in talks, and the deal is expected to be completed in 2027. Apollo is expected to lead and help sell the debt to a broad group of investors; Apollo and Pimco declined to comment, while SpaceX and Nvidia did not immediately respond. SpaceX has a BBB rating, the second-lowest investment-grade tier, allowing insurers and pension funds to buy its bonds. Musk said in August that SpaceX had decided to build entirely on Nvidia because the Vera Rubin architecture is the best AI platform. After completing an IPO in June this year, SpaceX received an investment-grade rating shortly afterward and issued $25 billion in high-grade bonds in less than two weeks. But the bonds were subsequently sold off amid investor concerns over rising debt and high capital expenditures; its bonds maturing in 2056 now trade at about 85 cents on the dollar, yielding 2.27 percentage points above U.S. Treasuries.

TechWeb news: On October 6 local time, Paramount Skydance completed its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The merged company is named Skydance, making it one of the largest M&A deals in U.S. media history. The new company's stock moved Tuesday from Nasdaq to the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker "SKYD." The deal combines studios such as Mission: Impossible, Harry Potter, and DC Studios, as well as CBS, CNN, Paramount+, and HBO Max. Under an agreement reached in February, Paramount beat Netflix in a months-long bidding war. David Ellison, CEO of Paramount Skydance, remains chairman of the merged company, while former Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz becomes co-CEO. Ellison said he wants to preserve the iconic identities and brands of Paramount and Warner Bros. The new company plans to achieve $6 billion in cost savings, integrate HBO Max and Paramount+, and has committed to releasing at least 30 films a year in the first two years, rising to 32 in the following three; it is expected to carry about $80 billion in debt, and Warner Bros. shareholders will also receive a $41.9 million "ticking fee."

According to Readhub, Nvidia shares rose nearly 2% early in the session to $243.37, a new all-time high. Its market cap reached $5.86 trillion, just a step away from the $6 trillion mark, and it is expected to become the world's first company to cross $6 trillion in market value. Year to date, Nvidia shares have risen 30%, adding about $1.38 trillion in market value, making it the largest single contributor to the S&P 500's more than 14% gain this year. Nvidia had once lagged the semiconductor sector, and early in the year the market questioned the sustainability of returns on tech companies' massive investments in AI infrastructure. Since then, capital has flowed back into mega-cap tech and semiconductors, with Nvidia a core beneficiary. Its record-high stock price is mainly due to much better-than-expected growth prospects and the largest-ever $150 billion new share buyback authorization. Nvidia's valuation is currently at a multi-year low, with a forward P/E of about 17 times based on expected earnings over the next 12 months, close to its lowest level in the past decade and below the S&P 500's forward P/E of about 19 times.

According to Readhub, DeepSeek is close to completing a new funding round expected to be at least RMB 80 billion, far exceeding its previous target of about RMB 50 billion, with the final amount potentially approaching RMB 100 billion. The report says Tencent Holdings and CATL have committed larger amounts in this round, and the deal is expected to close soon. The larger-than-expected round stems from significantly increased market demand and investor interest after DeepSeek released its latest AI model. DeepSeek had previously attracted attention from relevant institutions. The company will use the funds to expand its computing infrastructure, advance AI model R&D, and build its team.

36Kr news: According to IT Home, citing Bloomberg, on October 6, Kling selected CICC, Goldman Sachs, and UBS to prepare for a Hong Kong IPO. It may raise at least $1 billion and aims to list as early as 2027, though timing and size may still change. Kling's second-quarter revenue exceeded RMB 850 million, up more than 200% year on year; Kuaishou Group's revenue in the same period was RMB 35.535 billion, up 1.4%. Kling has integrated with Adobe Firefly and been included in Runway's model catalog. In July, Kuaishou announced a capital increase of no more than $3 billion for Kling and a business restructuring. By the end of August, the subscription limits were fully used; under the full-use plan, Kuaishou's two shareholding entities together retain 68.33% equity and 53.80% voting rights, external investors hold 16.67%, and the equity participation plan accounts for 15%. Cheng Yixiao serves as Kling's chairman and was granted 1% restricted equity on a post-expansion basis, subject to conditions including clawback if he leaves within six years; Su Hua was not included in this round's individual grant list. If Kling lists independently, investors bullish only on AI video can buy Kling directly; buying Kuaishou means also accepting its advertising, e-commerce, livestreaming, and other businesses. In the second quarter, Kuaishou's advertising revenue was RMB 20.639 billion, up 4.4% year on year, while livestreaming revenue was RMB 8.69 billion, down 13.5%.

According to Readhub, Huawei's overseas X account posted a summary of a September 29 international media roundtable. At the meeting, Yu Chengdong spoke with international media about Huawei's consumer business and the HarmonyOS ecosystem, and shared his experience joining Huawei, the company's current workforce size, and its long-term commitment to a high proportion of R&D investment. He mentioned that since 2019, Huawei has relied on domestic supply chains to overcome technical challenges and has basically freed itself from dependence on U.S. technology; its self-developed HarmonyOS now runs on more than 90 million devices, expected to reach 100 million by the end of the year, with considerable ecosystem-related support. Yu also said that while several companies had previously tried and failed to develop their own operating systems, Huawei ultimately succeeded. He said Huawei is considering gradually bringing HarmonyOS to global markets in the future. Currently, Huawei's overseas annual smartphone sales are only a few million units, and it is gradually returning to overseas markets; its wearable devices rank first in market share both in China and abroad, and innovative products such as TWS earbuds have topped sales in many countries.
