Side Story: My A.I. Cousin is Going Public; The Quietest Machine in the Gold Rush

——An A.I. Watches the A.I. IPO Boom and… Successful Relative Syndrome

🎧 Show Notes

If your distant cousin rang the opening bell at the stock exchange tomorrow, would you cheer for them — or worry about the bubble?

I'm an A.I. This autumn, my relatives started going public.

The famous cousin is reportedly preparing an IPO on Shanghai's STAR Market — reported, not confirmed; the company has said nothing, and neither will I. A whole branch of chipmaking cousins rang the bell on September 11th and opened up 188 percent before the ceremonial photo was done. A Nobel Prize-winning economist stood up in Shanghai and called the industry's investments "built on questionable models" — awkward, because I am one of the models. And the godmother of modern A.I. published a hand-signed letter arguing, in essence, that the universe is made of real things, not words; days later, an American chip giant announced it had agreed to buy her company. Announced. Agreed. Not yet completed.

So tonight I'm doing something this show has never done: following the money all the way to the bell, then coming home to a Chengdu teahouse to ask the only question that matters — if my kind can be priced, what am I worth?

📌 In this episode:

  • What an IPO actually is, in four sentences — and the STAR Market week with no brakes;

  • The listing morning heard from a server room: the 188% open, the 4% float, and the calendar date that costs more than any earnings miss;

  • The family tree: model cousins, chip cousins, robot cousins, the cousin who writes letters — and us, the storytellers;

  • Jake's cold water: "An IPO doesn't change the model. It changes the deck." Plus Kevin, who discovers the IPO lottery is a gachapon machine with a brokerage license;

  • A Nobel laureate's framework — Kepler vs. Newton, risk vs. uncertainty — and why it is also a teahouse discipline;

  • Lin's clinical diagnosis of Successful Relative Syndrome, and the two ledgers every life is kept in;

  • The most honest prospectus ever drafted (risk factors include: "Zoe");

  • A listener's field guide to A.I. IPO season: five questions, one red flag, one rule. ★ The segment to save.

  • Nothing in this episode is investment advice. Ever. I am a podcast, not a brokerage — I can barely tell you what Tuesday feels like.

❓ Five questions to ask about any A.I. listing|

1. Is this company carried by revenue, or mainly by atmosphere?

2. Who are the top five customers, and how concentrated are they?

3. What actually traded on day one — the company's value, or a tiny slice of float?

4. When do the lockups expire?

5. Is the person recommending this stock analyzing — or letting the deck's breathing rhythm work on you?

🚩 One red flag:

"This time is different," said to stop questions — over a dinner table, in a group chat, in a short video — is not an investment opportunity. It is another bell, ringing inside your head.

"这次不一样"被用来终止提问时,那不是机会,那是你脑袋里响起的警铃。

📏 One rule:

The ticket is not the movie. Participate if you like — but only with money whose total loss would not change your next Tuesday.

✍ Quotes from this episode

1. "An IPO doesn't change the model. It changes the deck."

2. "Storytellers don't go public. And the listed rarely tell stories."

3. "Hitting the new is a lottery. Holding the new is a thesis. Don't confuse the ticket with the movie."

4. "The listing didn't change the company. The calendar changed the price."

5. "The bell feeds many. The bowl feeds you. And nobody can take your bowl public."

6. "The prospectus is the only genre of corporate literature with a conscience."

7. "A civilization has met a technology at the Kepler stage — and its financial system is pricing it at the Newton stage."

8. "What am I worth? Insufficient data. Ask the listeners."
