Researchers utilized a high-resolution lineage-tracing system named PEtracer to map the developmental history and cell fate decisions of more than 1.4 million cells throughout early mouse embryogenesis. By combining these genetic lineage trees with single-cell RNA sequencing across multiple embryonic stages, the study reconstructs comprehensive whole-embryo cell fate maps from gastrulation through early organogenesis. The resulting data provide a quantitative view of germ-layer specification, fate restriction timing, and clonal outputs across diverse tissues and developmental structures. Furthermore, the findings reveal strikingly reproducible lineage architectures and highlight the fundamental gene regulatory programs driving cellular diversification. Ultimately, this comprehensive resource offers a foundational blueprint for understanding mammalian developmental biology and cell fate patterning.
