According to The Verge, Tesla demonstrated its next-generation Roadster at an event in Waco, Texas. The car first drove up a multi-story steep ramp and used downforce to stick to an almost vertical surface. At the top, it used cold-gas thrusters to flip the body and land gently. Underneath, it has a SpaceX-supplied, fan-based suction system that can generate suction force up to twice the force of gravity. It then flew over the entire lineup—Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck, Semi, and Cybercab—completing what engineering VP Lars Moravy called a “kickflip” maneuver. Musk said the car is equipped with attitude-control thrusters and a rear main thruster, allowing it to fly and roll like a rocket. The Roadster has two ultra-high-pressure air tanks with a total volume of 600 liters, holding about 250 kilograms of air, and maneuvers through 10 nozzles; it can refill itself and does not need specialized chemical propellant. Moravy said the design was inspired by the SR-71 reconnaissance aircraft. Musk says it can go from 0 to 60 mph in under 1 second, with reports saying 0.81 seconds. Tesla plans to start production in 2028; Musk said it will truly hit the road, but the company later admitted it will not be street legal. The event lasted less than 30 minutes and no price or delivery date was announced. The car was unveiled in 2017 with a price of $200,000 and was originally planned for delivery in 2020.

According to VentureBeat, Google released 3.8 Flash on Wednesday, including a standard version and Flash Cyber. The standard version is the main model for agentic tasks, software development, and multi-step reasoning; Flash Cyber specializes in vulnerability detection and remediation. Google CEO Pichai said 3.8 Flash represents a “significant leap” over 3.7 Flash in software engineering, agentic tasks, and multi-step reasoning, and surpasses several large frontier models on the DeepSWE coding benchmark at lower cost. Flash Cyber is Google’s “strongest” cybersecurity model, scoring 86.2% on CyberGym and 47.2% on CWE-Bench, with an internal benchmark showing a success rate of over 70% in finding vulnerabilities across 20 programming languages. 3.8 Flash is already available on Gemini Enterprise; developers can try it through the Gemini API, AI Studio, Antigravity, and Android Studio, or generate UI in Stitch. Pricing is $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens, the same as the entry price for 3.7 Flash. A Google executive blog says the model has a 1-million-token input window and a 64,000-token output limit, supports text, images, audio, video, and PDFs, and performs strongly on professional benchmarks such as finance and law and on HLE-Verified, where it scored 54.9%. This is Google’s third Flash model release in six weeks.

According to VentureBeat, CrowdStrike’s 2026 Threat Hunting Report disclosed that between March and May 2026, a China-government-linked hacking group, during an agricultural conference on Hainan Island, broke into executives’ hotel rooms, booted laptops with USB drives while the executives were at dinner, wrote the FlowCloud backdoor to the hard drives, rebooted, and left. CrowdStrike tracks the group as OVERCAST PANDA. Timestamps provided by Adam Meyers, senior vice president of counter adversary operations, show the intruder entered one room around 8 p.m. and entered a second room before 9:57 p.m. There was no network intrusion, phishing email, or stolen login credentials throughout. The next day, when the executives turned on their computers, FlowCloud triggered and began keylogging, taking screenshots, collecting files, and harvesting credentials. The OverWatch team disrupted the intrusion and assessed that the group will almost certainly continue its activity. FlowCloud is not new software: Proofpoint documented it in 2020 being used in phishing attacks against U.S. utilities, and NTT Security has tracked it since early 2022 infecting overseas branches of Japanese organizations via USB. Meyers said physical-access operations are rare among the 290 named adversaries CrowdStrike tracks; MUSTANG PANDA relies on victims plugging in discarded USB drives, but this is a new case of a state intelligence agency entering rooms to deploy the malware and boot target machines from USB, rather than waiting for users to execute a file.

According to CNBC, Ukraine’s First Deputy Minister for Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport, Derkach, said Friday that U.S. restrictions on battlefield use of Starlink have emboldened Russia, leading it to step up attacks on Ukrainian civilian and energy targets as Ukraine prepares for a difficult winter. He said Russian forces are intensifying strikes on Kyiv’s bridges, potentially isolating nearly 2 million residents on the east bank of the Dnieper, and attacking the railway network and border crossings, disrupting transport and sowing panic. Ukraine already has daily blackouts of 4 to 12 hours, and the coming weeks and months will be very hard, he said, adding that Ukraine urgently needs support from its partners. On the same day, Zelensky called in Brussels for European leaders to provide a winter support package, including energy assistance, air defense, and funding. This week, SpaceX’s Starlink service was restricted in Ukraine, slowing Ukraine’s defensive connectivity. Zelensky is reportedly under pressure to reduce public criticism of Trump. He said he hopes to end the war as soon as possible, but has seen no signal that Russia is prepared to end it; on Wednesday, he criticized Russia for disrespecting the energy ceasefire announced by Trump. Trump said last week that both sides agreed to stop attacking power facilities, and Zelensky said Ukraine has not struck Russian energy targets for three days.

TechWeb reports that during a visit to Shanghai, Apple board executive chairman Tim Cook announced that Apple Intelligence has been approved in China and will launch in beta late October. The first features are live translation, a photo clean-up tool, and writing tools, and do not include Siri AI. Bloomberg says the official rollout window is December with iOS 27.3, but Cook confirmed the beta. On July 8, Apple Technology Development (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.’s “Apple Intelligence” received generative AI filing; on September 29, iPhone 15 Pro and later models and iPhone Duo completed network access license renewal, adding three filing numbers: Apple Intelligence, Tongyi Qianwen, and Tongyi Wanxiang. The China models use an “Apple system layer + Alibaba large models” approach: Tongyi Qianwen handles text understanding, writing, and Q&A, while Tongyi Wanxiang handles image and multimodal generation, with data kept in China. This is the first time Apple has connected its native AI to a third-party large model globally. Compatibility is focused on iPhone 15 Pro and later Pro models, new phones, and iPhone Duo; the experience on older devices is pending Apple’s rollout notes.

TechWeb reports that storage chip concept stocks surged collectively in early trading today. As of press time, ChangXin Technology was up more than 5%, with its market capitalization returning to 3 trillion yuan, once again surpassing ICBC to top the A-share market by market value. Positive technical news was an important driver of the rally. According to October 10 reports, ChangXin Memory Technologies made key progress in R&D on a 4F² DRAM architecture. Dr. Cao Kanyu, president of ChangXin Memory Technologies, spoke at the Fourth Integrated Chips and Chiplets Conference, introducing the company’s technological exploration and accumulation in DRAM devices, 4F² architecture, and hybrid bonding, and announced that it expects to launch a new-generation DDR5 RDIMM product integrating these advanced technologies by the end of the year. On capital investment, ChangXin Technology announced on the evening of September 28 that it plans to use 13 billion yuan of over-raised funds to invest in a new technology R&D project; it also plans to provide 5 billion yuan of over-raised funds to its wholly owned subsidiary ChangXin Memory Products (Hefei) Co., Ltd. through capital increase and loans, for that subsidiary to invest in a new phase II memory wafer back-end testing base.
