这一次我想跟大家聊聊英语姓名文化，本期呢主要关注“英语人名知多少？” 此处的“人名”指的是英语中的first name，英汉名字的排序也有差别。汉语的人名往往带有较为明显的时代特征，相比之下英语中的男女名基本是固定的，绝大多数的男子名和女子名泾渭分明。据英国学者统计，不同时代流行着不同的英语人名，且同一时代不同英语国家流行的人名也不完全相同。
通过从人名的结构、时代特征以及复杂程度三个方面对英语人名和汉语人名进行比较，我们不仅能够了解英语人名的突出特点，还能体会其中蕴含的中西方文化差异。
How many of you are randomly named by your middle school English teacher? Or how many are deliberately chosen? Are you Mary or Lily? David or Jack? Did the first name first appear with last name? Do you have a 建国 relative?
Today we are talking about first name culture in English. English name differs from Chinese and is relatively stable with less time markers. It is also easy to tell female names from male ones. Different era has its own favorites. So do different English-speaking countries of the same era. Old names might come back into vogue again.
In light of name structure, time, and complexity, we can peek into characteristics of English names and cultural differences between Chinese and English.
