Warren Buffett once said, "Habits are like chains. They start off light and barely noticeable, but eventually become heavy and impossible to break free from."
Often, a person's happiness and health are directly related to their habits. This is the fundamental reason why I decided to quit smoking. I know that smoking is a bad habit, and I also understand that the older I get, the harder it becomes to break the inertia of habits. So, I made the decision to quit before I turn 30.
Every year, I set goals for myself, taking into consideration the cultivation of good habits. By achieving these goals, I not only accomplish something specific but also develop positive habits along the way. It's like hitting two birds with one stone, and I truly enjoy the process and results of continually cultivating and refining my habits.
It's important to be aware of bad habits. Here, journaling comes to my rescue (another one of my good habits). I frequently reflect on my recent behaviors in my journal and identify any negative habits. Remembering that habits start off lightly and are hard to detect in the beginning, it's crucial to be conscious of them. Self-awareness is something we can work on throughout our lives.
I believe this is not just about habits; it's about compound interest. Only those who benefit from good habits truly understand the true meaning of compound interest.
