Over the weekend, I watched two sci-fi movies: Netflix's "The Three-Body Problem" and "Dune 2."

"Dune 2" was visually stunning and definitely worth watching in the theater. Interestingly, 3D movies seem to have disappeared in recent years, and I've always found them a bit silly and uncomfortable to watch, especially with the subtitles in 3D. But this 2D movie still managed to have a powerful impact.

I find both of these sci-fi movies quite intriguing as they explore a common theme: the madness of humanity.

Or perhaps one is discussing the issue while the other goes further to seek a resolution.

In "The Three-Body Problem," I feel it's all about how insane humanity can be. The protagonist has lost faith in humanity and directly introduces a new variable (extraterrestrial beings) that will inevitably bring change, whether for better or worse. The author assumes that human self-reflection will never change our inherent flaws. Only by introducing an external variable can there be a glimmer of hope for change.

On the other hand, "Dune" delves into topics of social order and religious beliefs. It may seem like a story set in a cosmic perspective, but in reality, it tackles the theme of social order. It doesn't escape human thinking, and perhaps the logic of these underlying power dynamics is universal, transcending any corner of the universe.

It's not about who has a loftier intention or a lower one, but rather, I find it fascinating that both movies are discussing something interconnected, albeit from different perspectives.
