>> Ding
As one of the most important bronze ware, ding was initially used to cook and store meat. Later on, ding became a sacrificial vessel in which sacrifices to gods were cooked. As a representative of China's bronze culture, ding serves as a witness to the ancient Chinese civilization as well as the carrier of culture. In the history of China, ding was regarded as a token of state and power. Nowadays, Chinese people still have an awareness of ding worship. The character ding is also endowed with extended meanings such as “eminent”, “honorable”, “magnificent”, etc., as can be seen in Chinese idioms yiyanjiuding, damingdingding, dingshengshiqi, dinglixiangzhu, etc., which respectively mean “someone's words carry weight”, “well-known”, “golden age” and “give valuable assistance”.
