0As China's economy has rapidly developed, disparities have emerged between the east coastal, central, and western regions. In the face of such regional imbalances, how does China's fiscal system operate? What policies has the central government implemented to narrow these gaps?
For this episode, we have a very special guest Dr. Xiaoliang Yang, lecturer at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, who takes time out of his busy schedule visiting UNNC to talk to us about his publication‘The dynamics of redistribution, inequality and growth across China’s regions’in the Journal of Policy Modelling.
Xiaoliang specializes in researching Macroeconomics, Public Economics, and Labour Economics. For this episode, he explains to us how China’s tax-sharing reforms have developed overtime, and how this has impacted upon GDP. Most significantly, the different levels of regional and international taxation have led to some stark economic differences across the nation.
