Reactions [各方反应] continue to pour in [涌入] from around the world over yesterday's argument between President Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office [可见02282025日新闻]. As NPR's Charles Maines reports, Trump is finding plenty of support in Moscow. The Kremlin [克里姆林宫] has yet to weigh in [发表评论] directly on the White House meeting, but prominent [此处指位于高位的] government officials took to social media to praise [赞扬] Trump for giving Zelensky what one called a public beatdown [打击]. While Zelensky has been largely lauded [称赞] in the West for his leadership amid the Russian invasion, propagandists [宣传者] in Moscow have long depicted [描绘] him as both fascist [法西斯主义的] and corrupt [腐败的]. Russia's foreign ministry issued a statement seemingly designed to appeal to [迎合] Trump's argument it was Kiev rather than Moscow holding up [阻碍] a potential peace deal [交易]. The ministry claimed that Zelensky had, quote, used lies and manipulation [操纵] to continue fighting and bilk [诈取] Western military aid, viewed the current White House appears to share. New leadership in the Trump Justice Department continues to take actions against career prosecutors [检察官]. The acting [代理的] U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C. has demoted [降级] at least seven top prosecutors in the U.S. attorney's office. NPR's Ryan Lucas has more. One of them is John Crabb. He was a supervisor [主管] in the office. He was involved in the cases against Trump allies Steve Bannon [班农] and Peter Navarro [纳瓦罗]. Greg Rosen, he led the Capitol Siege [围攻国会山] unit that prosecuted January 6 cases. Two of the other attorneys worked on two of the most high-profile [有高曝光度的] cases to come out of the Capitol riot [暴乱] investigation. The prosecution against Stuart Rhodes, he's the leader of the far-right [极右的] Oath Keepers [誓言守护者] extremist [极端] group. Rhodes was convicted [被判] at trial of seditious conspiracy [煽动性阴谋]. President Trump says he will issue a pardon [赦免] for the late [已故的] Cincinnati Reds great Pete Rose. Major League Baseball's [美国职业棒球大联盟] controversial [有争议的] hit king died last year, never having been inducted [入选] into the Baseball Hall of Fame [名人堂]. Tana Weingartner of member station WVXU reports the idea is a home run [棒球全垒打，此处指胜利] for many fans. Pete Rose remains MLB's all-time hits [击中] leader, but his legacy is tainted [玷污] by betting [赌博] on baseball, which earned him a lifetime ban from the sport and the Hall of Fame. Reds fan Adam Rydell likes the pardon idea and sees it as moving Rose a step closer to finally being inducted into the Hall of Fame. He is guilty [有罪的] of betting on baseball. He admitted it. But we live to forgive and forget, especially our sports heroes. The president can only pardon Rose's federal conviction [判决]. Rose pleaded guilty [认罪] to tax evasion [逃税] in 1990 and served five months in a low-security [低看守强度] prison.
In Alaska, a ceremonial start [启动仪式] to the Iditarod dog sled race got underway [开始] today. But the number of mushers [赶狗拉雪橇的人] in this year's race, 33, is down, and it's tied [平局，此处指一样的] with 2023 as an all-time low.
