解我干渴的轮舞曲
因为满盈的杯子
比接吻更吸引我们的嘴唇；
斟满了的杯子，飞快地被一饮而尽。
我最大的感官快乐
是我的干渴得到解除······

有一些饮料，
用榨出的橙汁或柠檬汁制成，
清凉爽口，因为
酸味中还带着一点甜味。
我喝过的玻璃杯有的如此单薄，
甚至在牙齿未碰之前
嘴唇就会将其抿碎；
而饮料在里面显得分外甘醇，
因为几乎没有任何东西将饮料
和我们的嘴唇分隔。
我曾用有弹性的无脚杯喝酒，
把杯子棒在双手中挤压，
杯中物就会升到唇边。
我曾在烈日下跋涉了一天，
傍晚在旅店用粗糙的玻璃杯，
喝浓稠的果露；
有时，水池中的水异常清冽，
饮后使我更感到夜色的清凉。
我也喝过保存在羊皮囊中的水，
水中散发出涂过柏油的羊皮气味。
我几乎匍匐在溪边喝过水。
我真想在这些小溪中浮沉。
赤裸的双手在潺潺河水中一直浸到底，
看得见洁白的卵石在粼粼波动······

水出奇地透明；我希望水色湛蓝或是碧绿，以便给我更冰凉的感觉——而且还带有一点茴香味。
我最大的感官快乐，
是我的干渴得到解除。
THE LAY OF MY QUENCHED THIRSTS
For we have stretched our lips towards brimming cups
More eagerly than towards kisses;
Brimming cups, so soon emptied.
The greatest joys of my senses
Have been the thirsts I have quenched . . .

There are drinks which are prepared
With the Juice of squeezed oranges
Or lemons, or limes —
Refreshing drinks, because the taste
Both sweet and sour.
I have drunk out of glasses so thin
That your mouth was afraid of breaking them
Before ever your teeth touched them;
And drink seems to taste better in them
Because there is almost nothing between your lips and it.
I have drunk out of elastic bowls
Which you squeezed with both hands
To me the wine rise to your lips.
I have drunk thick syrups out of coarse inn glasses
After a day spent walking in the sun;
And sometimes after the icy water of a cistern
I have better enjoyed the evening shade.
I have drunk water that had been kept in skins
And that smelt of tarred goat-hide.
I have drunk water as I lay stretched on the banks
Of streams where I wanted to bathe in
While my two bare arms plunged into the running water
Until they touched the bottom.
Where white pebbles can be seen stirring . . .
And the cool soaked into me by the shoulders too.
The shepherds drank water out of their hands;
I taught them to suck it up through straws.
There were days when I walked in the blazing sun.
During the hottest hours of the summer day.
In search of a fiercer thirst to quench.
And do you remember, my friend, that once, during that tristful journey of ours, we got up in the middle of the night, perspiring, to drink out of the earthenware jar which had made the water icy?
Cisterns, hidden wells, to which the women go dawn. Waters which have never seen the light; which taste of darkness.
Waters which are bubbling with air. Waters which are abnormally transparent; which I should
have preferred blue — or rather green — so that they would have seemed icier — with a slight taste of aniseed.
The greatest joys of my senses
Have been the thirsts I have quenched.
