Amidst all the clamour, Resurrection had its premiere at Cannes. It's the longest film in competition section this year. It is also, without a doubt, the most ambitious. Although I had anticipated the film's metaphysical and ethereal aura in pre-screening interviews with the director, I was still shocked to actually see it. It's a work that encompasses a century of cinema history as well as modern history, with Jackson Yee coming out of the depths into the vast world in the form of an unrecognisable monster to begin this dreamy journey of reincarnation.
