During the Ming Dynasty, relations with Portuguese traders were an important part of China's international relations and changed radically depending upon the wider global (and local) context. Historian Dr James Fujitani, an Assistant Professor in our School of International Studies, joins us to discuss his research into this fascinating period. James’paper ‘Sino-Portuguese Trafficking of Children during the Ming Dynasty’ was published in the Itinerario: Journal of Imperial and Global Interactions. For James, it is important to focus upon the most vulnerable people during this difficult time who are often overlooked: the children.
