Jack and the Beanstalk first appeared as The Story of JackSpriggins and the Enchanted Bean in 1734. Featured Illustrations are by ArthurRackham, 1918 edition of English Fairy Tales retold by Flora Annie Steel.

Once upon a time there lived a poor widow and her son Jack.
从前，有一个贫穷的寡妇和她的儿子杰克。
One day, Jack’s mother told him to sell their only cow.
一天，杰克的母亲叫他卖掉家里唯一的一头牛。
Jack went to the market and on the way he met a man whowanted to buy his cow.
杰克去了市场，在去的路上他遇到了一个想买他牛的人。
Jack asked, “What will you give me in return for my cow?”The man answered, “I will give you five magic beans!”
杰克问：“你用什么来交换我的牛？”那人回答：“我会给你五颗魔法豆！”
Jack took the magic beans and gave the man the cow.
杰克拿了魔法豆并把牛给了那个人。
But when he reached home, Jack’s mother was very angry.
但当他回到家时，杰克的母亲非常生气。
She said, “You fool! He took away your cow and gave you somebeans!”
她说：“你这个傻瓜！他拿走了你的牛，却只给了你一些豆子！”
She threw the beans out of the window.
她把豆子从窗户扔了出去。
Jack was very sad and went to sleep without dinner.
杰克非常伤心，没吃晚饭就去睡觉了。
The next day, when Jack woke up in the morning and lookedout of the window,
第二天，当杰克早上醒来向窗外望去时，
he saw that a huge beanstalk had grown from his magic beans!
他看到一颗巨大的豆茎从他的魔法豆中生长出来！
He climbed up the beanstalk and reached a kingdom in thesky.
他爬上豆茎，到达了一个天空中的王国。
There lived a giant and his wife.
那里住着一个巨人和他的妻子。
Jack went inside the house and found the giant’s wife in thekitchen.
杰克走进房子，在厨房找到了巨人的妻子。
Jack said, “Could you please give me something to eat? I amso hungry!”
杰克说：“你能给我一些吃的吗？我好饿！”
The kind wife gave him bread and some milk.
善良的妻子给了他面包和一些牛奶。
While he was eating, the giant came home.
当他正在吃的时候，巨人回家了。
The giant was very big and looked very fearsome.
巨人非常高大，看起来很可怕。
Jack was terrified and went and hid inside.
杰克非常害怕，躲了起来。
The giant cried, “Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the blood of anEnglishman.
巨人喊道：“Fee-fi-fo-fum，我闻到了一个英国人的血腥味。
Be he alive, or be he dead, I’ll grind his bones to make mybread!”
不管他是死是活，我都要把他的骨头磨成面包！”
The wife said, “There is no boy in here!”
妻子说：“这里没有男孩！”
So, the giant ate his food and then went to his room.
于是，巨人吃了他的饭，然后去了他的房间。
He took out his sacks of gold coins, counted them and keptthem aside.
他拿出他的金子袋，数了数，放在一边。
Then he went to sleep.
然后他去睡觉了。
In the night, Jack crept out of his hiding place,
夜里，杰克从藏身的地方爬出来，
took one sack of gold coins and climbed down the beanstalk.
拿了一袋金子，然后爬下豆茎。
At home, he gave the coins to his mother.
回到家，他把硬币给了他的母亲。
His mother was very happy and they lived well for sometime.
他的母亲非常高兴，他们过了一段时间的好日子。
Jack Climbed the beanstalk and went to the giant’s houseagain.
杰克再次爬上豆茎，去了巨人的房子。
Once again, Jack asked the giant’s wife for food,
再一次，杰克向巨人的妻子要食物，
but while he was eating the giant returned.
但当他正在吃的时候巨人回来了。
Jack leapt up in fright and went and hid under the bed.
杰克吓得跳了起来，躲到了床下。
The giant cried, “Fee-fifo-fum, I smell the blood of anEnglishman.
巨人喊道：“Fee-fifo-fum，我闻到了一个英国人的血腥味
Be he alive, or be he dead, I’ll grind his bones to make mybread!”
不管他是死是活，我都要把他的骨头磨成面包！”
The wife said, “There is no boy in here!”
妻子说：“这里没有男孩！”
The giant ate his food and went to his room.
巨人吃了他的饭，然后去了他的房间。
There, he took out a hen. He shouted, “Lay!” and the henlaid a golden egg.
在那里，他拿出一只母鸡。他喊道：“下蛋！”母鸡就下了一个金蛋。
When the giant fell asleep, Jack took the hen and climbeddown the beanstalk.
巨人睡着后，杰克拿了母鸡，然后爬下豆茎。
Jack’s mother was very happy with him.
杰克的母亲对他非常高兴。
After some days, Jack once again climbed the beanstalk andwent to the giant’s castle.
几天后，杰克再次爬上豆茎，去了巨人的城堡。
For the third time, Jack met the giant’s wife and asked forsome food.
第三次，杰克遇到了巨人的妻子，并要求一些食物。
Once again, the giant’s wife gave him bread and milk.
再一次，巨人的妻子给了他面包和牛奶。
But while Jack was eating, the giant came home.
但当杰克正在吃的时候，巨人回家了。“
“Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman.
Fee-fi-fo-fum，我闻到了一个英国人的血腥味。
Be he alive, or be he dead, I’ll grind his bones to make mybread!” cried the giant.
不管他是死是活，我都要把他的骨头磨成面包！”巨人喊道。
“Don’t be silly! There is no boy in here!” said his wife.
“别傻了！这里没有男孩！”他的妻子说。
The giant had a magical harp that could play beautifulsongs.
巨人有一把能演奏美妙歌曲的魔法竖琴。
While the giant slept, Jack took the harp and was about toleave.
巨人睡着时，杰克拿了竖琴正要离开。
Suddenly, the magic harp cried, “Help master! A boy isstealing me!”
突然，魔法竖琴喊道：“救命，主人！有个男孩在偷我！”
The giant woke up and saw Jack with the harp.
巨人醒来看到杰克拿着竖琴。
Furious, he ran after Jack.
愤怒的巨人追着杰克。
But Jack was too fast for him.
但杰克比他快多了。
He ran down the beanstalk and reached home.
他跑下豆茎，回到了家。
The giant followed him down.
巨人跟着他下来。
Jack quickly ran inside his house and fetched an axe.
杰克迅速跑进屋子，拿了一把斧头。
He began to chop the beanstalk. The giant fell and died.
他开始砍豆茎。巨人摔下来死了。
Jack and his mother were now very rich and they livedhappily ever after.
杰克和他的母亲现在非常富有，从此过上了幸福的生活。
