The Little Bear Who Did Not Want to Sleep /
Deep in the middle of a quiet forest, blanketed in thick snow, a little bear was still awake inside his cave.
Inside the cave the air was warm and smelled of dry moss.
The little bear peeked at his mother and father. They were curled up together breathing slow and soft
Winter had come early this year , But the little bear did not want to sleep.
He wasn’t ready to stop playing. He wanted to splash in the pond and chase butterflies.
Carefully he stepped over his father’s big paw and crept toward the cave entrance.
His tiny claws went click-clack on the stone floor.
He hopped outside — and WHOOSH! The cold air hit him all at once.
The snow was bright and white, making him squint.
The sun in the sky wasn’t the warm sun he remembered. 。It was cold and silver.
The little bear bounced in the snow. He rolled a little, kicked up tiny snow clouds, and made a row of neat paw prints — scritch, scritch, scritch.
He padded over to the trees. The branches were bare, like gray fingers reaching for the sky.
Where are the green leaves? the little bear wondered.“绿色的叶子去哪儿了呢?”
He tiptoed to the lake, but it was frozen solid. He listened for birds, but the forest was quiet. Only the wind whispered
The little bear sat down in a soft pile of snow.
His nose was cold, and his paws were cold. Before long, he grew very sleepy.
He yawned wide, rubbed his eyes, and slowly turned back toward the cave.
His parents were still asleep, breathing slow and even.
The little bear curled up between them, warm and safe, and drifted into a gentle sleep.
After a long, long while, he woke again.
He stretched and sniffed the sweet, damp air.
Curious, he poked his nose outside. Everything had changed.
The sun shone like a bright golden coin. Tiny green leaves peeked from the twigs.
The river bubbled over smooth stones, and birds hopped and chirped as if they had a thousand stories to tell.
The little bear took one last look at the cave. Then he followed his parents into the woods, where the snow melted into water, and water flowed gently into a clear little spring.
