Live from NPR in Washington, I'm Rylan Barton. The Justice Department has released an affidavit [书面证词] it used to seize [获取] election ballots [选票] in Georgia. NPR's Stephen Fowler reports the investigation was initiated by a lawyer who tried to help President Trump overturn [推翻] the 2020 election. The government of Indonesia [印度尼西亚] says it's preparing to send troops [军队] to Gaza. This is part of the U.S.-brokered [美国推动的] ceasefire [停火] agreement. NPR's Daniel Estrin has more. Indonesia, the world's most populous [人数多的] Muslim [穆斯林] country, is the first to announce it's training thousands of soldiers for potential deployment [部署] to Gaza. The U.S. is trying to stand up an international stabilization force in Gaza, but it's still unclear what the force's mandate [授权/职责] would be. President Trump's Board of Peace is meeting next week in Washington to raise funds for Gaza reconstruction. Israel says it opposes reconstruction until Hamas is disarmed [解除武装]. Meanwhile, attacks continue in Gaza. Health officials there say several Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire. The Israeli military says it struck Hamas militants after armed Palestinians emerged from a tunnel [地道] and shot at soldiers. Daniel Estrin, Tel Aviv.

Investors got a lackluster [黯然失色的] report on retail sales [零售销售] this morning. NPR's Scott Horsley reports the numbers were delayed by last year's government shutdown. The retail report from the Commerce Department shows overall spending at stores and restaurants didn't budge [退缩] in December as cautious [谨慎的] shoppers watched their pennies. Spending on cars, furniture and electronics fell, while spending on groceries and gasoline was slightly higher. Stock in Coca-Cola lost a little fizz [气泡,此处指好的势头] after the company projected a slower sales growth than forecasters were expecting this year. The nation's largest public utility says it will keep operating two coal-fired [燃煤的] power plants it had planned to shutter [关闭]. The shift by the Tennessee Valley Authority comes before a meeting of its board, which is a majority of members picked by the coal-friendly Trump administration. Clean energy groups say extending the coal plants would raise serious questions about TVA's decision-making process.

Regularly drinking coffee might be good for your brain. From member station WBUR, Deborah Becker reports on a study suggesting caffeine [咖啡因] may lower the risk of dementia [痴呆]. The research from Mass General Brigham finds drinking coffee or tea in moderation [有节制的] is associated with better cognitive function [认知功能]. Moderation means one to two cups of tea or two to three cups of coffee a day. The observational study reviewed more than 130,000 people over four decades. It found that those who consumed moderate amounts of caffeine daily had an 18 percent lower risk of dementia compared with those who did not. They also tended to report slower cognitive decline. The researchers say more study is needed to determine whether there is a link between caffeine and brain health, but they found no benefits associated with decaf [无咖啡因的咖啡/茶].
