Live from NPR, I'm Lakshmi Singh. Civil rights [公民权利] and political leaders, Democrats and Republicans, are reflecting on the legacy [遗产，影响] of the Reverend [牧师] Jesse Jackson today. His family, says Jackson, who spent more than a decade managing a rare [罕见的] neurodegenerative [神经性退行性] disease, died this morning at the age of 84. Brandon Codritz of member station WBEZ reports many in Chicago are paying tribute [致敬] to Jackson, who founded the Rainbow Push Coalition [联盟] on Chicago's South Side. Pearl's Place is a traditional soul food [非洲裔美国人的灵魂食物] restaurant at the corner of Michigan and Pershing, in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood. Daryl Green, one of the owners, knew Reverend Jackson and says he was a friend of the restaurant. He particularly remembers Jackson's slogans [口号]. What was it? Down with dope [吸毒], up with hope, and I am somebody. All of those kind of wonderful things. But he made some great historical moments. He did some things that really opened up doors for people of all races [种族] in all countries. And I trust he'll not be forgotten. Flags have been lowered to half-staff [降半旗] around the city to honor the late [已故的] civil rights leader.
Jackson's career was also punctuated [被打断] by professional and personal setbacks [挫折] from disparaging [贬低性的] remarks about New York's Jewish community during his first of two presidential campaigns to the criminal conviction [刑事定罪] of his son, Jesse Jackson Jr., for misusing campaign funds [竞选资金]. Still, he's being remembered today as a charismatic [富有魅力的] champion of equality [平等] across racial lines who gave this rallying call [即会口号] for social justice during his speech at the 1988 Democratic National Convention. A second round of nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran has ended in Geneva [日内瓦]. Both sides were entrenched [深陷] on key issues ahead of the negotiations [谈判], which took place amid a U.S. military buildup [集结] in the Middle East. Here's NPR's Jackie Northam. The indirect talks were between Special Envoy [特使] Steve Witkoff and President Trump's son-in-law [女婿] Jared Kushner on the U.S. side and Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Arachi. Speaking afterwards, Arachi said the three-hour talks had made good progress and were more constructive [有建设性的] than earlier negotiations, but that more work needed to be done. The U.S. has so far not commented [评论] on the talks. President Trump has affirmed [重申] that Iran possessed no nuclear weapons, and so zero enrichment [（铀）浓缩]. Tehran [德黑兰] insists [坚持] it has the right to enrich uranium [铀] for research and civilian [民事] purposes, but has indicated it's willing to curb [暂停] its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief [制裁暂停]. It's unclear if or when another round of talks is scheduled.
U.S. Capitol Police confirm a man rushed [冲向] toward the Capitol building with a shotgun [散弹枪] today. Police Chief Michael Sullivan says the suspect is in custody [被羁押]. A federal judge ruled that Immigration and Customs Enforcement cannot take custody again of Kilmar Abrego-Garcia. He is the Maryland resident whom the Trump administration admitted it had mistakenly deported to a notorious [臭名昭著的] prison in his native El Salvador [萨尔瓦多] last year.
America's Olympic cross-country ski [越野滑雪] team has won two medals so far. A big part of their success is a mobile [移动的] ski shop, which they call Yolanda the Wax Truck. NPR's Eric Whitney has more. Yolanda is named after a scene in the movie Pulp Fiction [低俗小说], where a character with that name is told to be cool. There's a big behind-the-scenes team that spends hours before every race making athletes' skis as fast as possible. U.S. coach [教练] Matt Whitcomb. So there's a lot of work that goes into it, which is why we have out there today 10 full-time people working on it, plus four coaches also running tests with them. It's a full assault [全面出击] on ski service, really. The crew tests an endless combination of ski waxes [蜡], trying to find formulas with the ideal glide for the particular snow conditions, which change every day. Mardi Gras [狂欢节] in New Orleans, a celebration also known as Fat Tuesday, is among several festivities and religious observances [过节] this week around the globe, including Lent, the Christian liturgical [礼拜仪式的] season of prayer leading to Easter, the Muslim holy month of Ramadan [斋月], and across Asia and beyond, the Lunar New Year. It is the year of the horse.
