The old house had always been there at the end of Maple Street, standing silent and mysterious behind a gate of rusted iron. Children whispered that it was haunted. Adults just called it "the old Henderson place" and walked past a little faster. For sixteen-year-old Maya, it was simply the biggest mystery in her otherwise boring summer.
She had lived in the neighborhood her whole life but had never once stepped inside. Until the day a letter arrived—addressed to her, in handwriting she didn't recognize.
Dear Maya,
If you're reading this, I'm gone. The house at the end of the street isn't what it seems. In the attic, behind the loose board on the north wall, you'll find something that belongs to you. Come alone. Trust no one.
—E.H.
Maya's hands trembled. E.H. stood for Eleanor Henderson—her great-aunt, the reclusive owner of the mysterious house, who had died three weeks ago. Maya had never met her, but according to family whispers, Eleanor had been "eccentric." Or crazy, depending on who was telling the story.
The next morning, Maya stood at the iron gate, her heart pounding. The gate creaked open at her touch, as if expecting her. Weeds choked the front yard, and paint peeled from the walls like old sunburn. She pushed open the front door—unlocked—and stepped into a world frozen in time.
Dust covered every surface. Old photographs in silver frames watched her from dusty tables. A grandfather clock stood silent at the bottom of the stairs, its hands stopped at 4:17. Maya climbed the creaking steps, her flashlight cutting through the dimness, until she reached the attic door.
It was padlocked.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1:
Maya searched her bag and found nothing that could break the lock. She tugged at it desperately, but the metal held firm, cold and unyielding. Frustration burned in her chest. Come alone. Trust no one. The words echoed in her mind. Was this some kind of joke? Had her great-aunt lured her here just to be stopped by a stupid padlock? She slumped against the wall, ready to give up—when her eyes caught something. A loose floorboard near the attic entrance, slightly raised. Her heart skipped. Kneeling down, she pried it open with trembling fingers. Beneath it lay a small brass key, coated in dust but unmistakable. It fit the lock perfectly. With a click that sounded deafening in the silence, the padlock sprang open.
Paragraph 2:
Inside, moonlight streamed through a small window, illuminating a single wooden box on the floor. Maya approached slowly, her footsteps echoing in the empty space. The box was simple, unadorned, but when she lifted the lid, her breath caught. Inside lay a stack of letters tied with faded ribbon, and on top, a photograph—a young woman holding a baby, smiling at the camera with eyes that looked just like Maya's own. Beneath the photo, a note in the same handwriting as the letter: For Maya. The truth you deserve to know. With shaking hands, she unfolded the first letter. It was addressed to her mother, dated twenty years ago—before Maya was born. As she read, the pieces began to fit together: a family secret kept hidden, a misunderstanding that had torn two sisters apart, and a baby—herself—who had been the reason Eleanor had left town, sacrificing her own happiness so her sister could have a family. Maya sat in the moonlight, tears streaming down her face, holding the proof of a love she had never known existed. The house wasn't haunted by ghosts. It was haunted by silence—silence that she, at last, had broken.

2. 谜底揭晓震撼有力:盒子里的不是金银财宝,而是一段被尘封的家族往事——a family secret kept hidden, a misunderstanding that had torn two sisters apart——这样的设计让“解谜”超越了物质层面,上升到情感与亲情的高度,深刻动人。
The house wasn't haunted by ghosts. It was haunted by silence.(排比+对比,点明主旨)
· 感官描写:cold and unyielding, click that sounded deafening, moonlight streamed, tears streaming
