Let me start today’s episode with a very honest question.

Why does English vocabulary feel so hard to memorize — especially for Chinese speakers?

Why do we keep learning the same words, seeing them again and again, and still forgetting them?

Most people explain this problem in very simple ways.

They say:

“I don’t have a good memory.”, “I’m not disciplined enough.”, or “I didn’t review hard enough.”

But in today’s episode, I want to challenge that idea.

Because the real problem is not memory.

The real problem is mismatch.

A mismatch between how Chinese trains your brain, and how English actually works as a language.

In this episode, I don’t want to teach you how to memorize words just yet.

I want to explain why forgetting English vocabulary is actually predictable, and why, for Chinese speakers, it’s almost inevitable if we use the wrong learning model.

If you’ve ever felt frustrated, guilty, or confused about vocabulary, this episode is for you.

OK! Let’s get into it.

本打工人现在觉得学习英语最难的是时间很有限😓
DWangDavid
:
所以像是這種短短的podcast可以在通勤時間聽的就很適合
CC尤加利_叶:光听不得行啊,得细细品味仔细揣摩,但是无时间,我恨

来听听今天上的下集!
感觉我比较大的问题是不知道这个词怎么用,运用极少,导致词汇很脱节,如blog中所说,就是单个单个的👀
DWangDavid
:
Exactly! 所以不能只记单词意思,得记很多用法,在什么情况下用、怎么用、前后通常跟那些字或者介词使用,不然第一记不住,第二就算记住了也不会用
I have learned this podcast about 5times,but I can’t catch the accuracy meaning yet
今天又是元气满满的一天:Ok , I totally agree with you that using a word properly means you have grasped it.I really look forward to the next episode !

The hardest part of learning English for me is pronunciation. It's especially tricky because I've also been learning Japanese recently. Those two languages always made my tongue twist up , and I find it really hard to say foreign languages in a native speaker way.
DWangDavid
:
You’re 100% right. The two languages are worlds apart! The Rs and Ls in Japanese makes it really hard to differentiate.

07:20 I can't wait to send my response for this episode! As an english major, I precisely stepped into these traps that David mentioned before. I used to think that the more advanced vocabulary you remember, the higher level you would get. But as i started to learn interpretation and translation, I gradually realized that most of the words in the scripts are majorly simple words in our former recognition. I will attend another round of translation certificates examjnation at the first half of the year, I decided to learn vocabulary by comparsion but not obssessed in quantity, and the all english explanation rather than direct chinese meaning. If i remember right,David has learned knowledge from linguistics and i believe your sharings are based on the knowledge from linguistics. Thanks for your sincere sharing!
DWangDavid
:
Yes. Thank you for sharing! All the best to your exam prep!

I really agree with the idea that we should learn the vocabulary by using it- listening, reading, writing, etc. See, that is why we usually know more adv. Than other kind of words, because we can use them mix with Chinese, such as actually, especially, typically, exactly.
Talking about the top one difficulty, I think is the typing speed! I don't have many chances to speak out. But I can choose to write like what I am doing know. But it cost much time. Anyway,i know this is the right way. And I will try to reply every episode from now on!

请问一下有中文版本的吗
DWangDavid
:
