EP22: Posture: The Silent Language of the Tea Table
When the mind is quiet, the body naturally finds its posture.
At the tea table, your sitting posture, hand gestures, and gaze silently convey your cultivation and attitude. A naturally straight back, not stiff, symbolizes inner integrity and respect. Hands resting gently on the knees convey stability and composure. A soft gaze focused on the tea table or the host’s hands shows attentiveness and respect.
There is no need for forced rigidity; elegant posture springs from inner calm and full engagement in the present moment. It helps harmonize the atmosphere of the entire tea session. When you participate with such poise, you are no longer just a guest, but an integral part of the shared tea aesthetic. Posture is the first statement you make without uttering a word.
