EP140 职场系列：外国人为什么口头上说同意但其实是不赞同？职场英语里的弦外之音

今天这一集，我想从一个很真实的场景开始。

你有没有这种经验：

你在开会，用英文。

每一个字你都听得懂。

甚至觉得自己英文其实还不错。

但会议结束之后，你发现——

👉 你理解错了整件事情。

你以为大家同意，其实没有。

你以为只是讨论，其实已经被拒绝了。

你以为事情会往前走，其实已经卡住了。

为什么会这样？

因为——

👉 职场英文，不只是 language，是 culture。

很多西方职场的人，其实不会直接说：

• “I disagree”
• “This is a bad idea”
• “No”

因为他们觉得这样太直接了，比较没有礼貌和职场礼仪，所以他们会：

👉 soften the message

👉 avoid confrontation

👉 maintain professionalism

🧠 Part 1 — Soft Disagreement（委婉不同意）

👉 为什么会这样讲？

在西方职场，直接说 “I disagree” 很容易让气氛变僵。

所以很多人会选择： 先正面回应你，但不表态支持你

① “That’s interesting.”

🎭 对话场景 1

• A: I think we should double the budget for this campaign.
• B: Hmm… that’s interesting.

🎭 对话场景 2

• A: What do you think of this idea?
• B: Yeah… it’s interesting.

👉 Recap：所以这句话很多时候的意思是——我不太同意，但我不想直接说。

② “I see what you mean.”

🎭 对话场景 1

• A: We should delay the launch by two months.
• B: I see what you mean, but timing is critical.

🎭 对话场景 2

• A: This feature isn’t necessary.
• B: I see what you mean.

👉 Recap：这句话的意思是——我理解你，但我没有答应你。

③ “That’s one way to look at it.”

🎭 对话场景 1

• A: Let’s just copy what competitors are doing.
• B: That’s one way to look at it.

🎭 对话场景 2

• A: This isn’t really a big problem.
• B: That’s one way to look at it.

👉 Recap：这句话其实在说——我觉得还有更好的看法，而且我不太认同你。

🚫 Part 2 — Polite Rejection（礼貌拒绝）

👉 为什么不直接说 No？

因为直接拒绝在很多情境里会让人 uncomfortable，

尤其是跨部门、客户、或关系还不熟的时候。

所以他们会：用很客气的方式说 No

① “Let’s circle back.”

🎭 对话场景 1

• A: Can we finalize this today?
• B: Let’s circle back next week.

🎭 对话场景 2

• A: What about this idea?
• B: Let’s circle back on that.

👉 Recap：这句话通常代表——现在不会处理，而且之后也不一定会。

② “We’ll think about it.”

🎭 对话场景 1

• A: Can we increase the team size?
• B: We’ll think about it.

🎭 对话场景 2

• A: Do you like this proposal?
• B: Yeah, we’ll think about it.

👉 Recap：这句话很多时候其实就是——No，但我不想直接拒绝你。

③ “Now’s not the best time.”

🎭 对话场景 1

• A: Can we launch this next month?
• B: I don’t think now’s the best time.

🎭 对话场景 2

• A: Can we talk about a promotion?
• B: Maybe not the best time right now.

👉 Recap：这句话的意思是——现在不行，而且短期内也不会。

🕒 Part 3 — Delay / Push（拖延与模糊）

👉 为什么讲得这么模糊？

因为很多时候：

• 他们自己也还没决定
• 不想现在承诺
• 或只是想拖时间

所以会用：模糊但听起来很 professional 的句子

① “Let me get back to you.”

🎭 对话场景 1

• A: Can you confirm by today?
• B: Let me get back to you.

🎭 对话场景 2

• A: Did you review the document?
• B: I’ll get back to you on that.

👉 Recap：这句话常常代表——我还没准备好回复，甚至可能不会回。

② “I’ll take a look.”

🎭 对话场景 1

• A: Can you review this deck?
• B: Yeah, I’ll take a look.

🎭 对话场景 2

• A: There’s an issue with the report.
• B: I’ll take a look.

👉 Recap：这句话很多时候只是安抚你，不代表真的会处理。

③ “It’s on our radar.”

🎭 对话场景 1

• A: Are we going to fix this bug?
• B: It’s on our radar.

🎭 对话场景 2

• A: Can we prioritize this?
• B: Yeah, it’s on our radar.

👉 Recap：这句话的意思是——我们知道，但现在优先级不高。

🤝 Part 4 — Fake Agreement（表面同意）

👉 为什么会假同意？

因为在很多会议里：

• 不想当场冲突
• 想让会议顺利进行
• 或还没想清楚

所以会出现：听起来像同意，但其实没有 fully commit

① “Sounds good.”

🎭 对话场景 1

• A: Let’s go with option B.
• B: Sounds good.

🎭 对话场景 2

• A: We’ll finalize this tomorrow.
• B: Sounds good.

👉 Recap：这句话通常只是——我现在先不反对，不代表我真的认同。

② “We’re aligned.”

🎭 对话场景 1

• A: So we’re aligned on the strategy?
• B: Yeah, we’re aligned.

🎭 对话场景 2

• A: Everyone agrees?
• B: I think we’re aligned.

👉 Recap：这句话常常只是大方向一致，但细节其实还没对齐。

③ “Let’s move forward.”

🎭 对话场景 1

• A: There are still some open questions.
• B: Let’s move forward.

🎭 对话场景 2

• A: Are we ready?
• B: Yeah, let’s move forward.

👉 Recap：这句话的意思是——先做再说，不代表真的准备好了。
