A cloud can weigh as much as an airplane.

You look up at a fluffy white cloud and it looks light and soft — like cotton candy. But don't be fooled. A typical small cloud weighs about as much as a big airplane. Some clouds are even heavier.

How is that possible? A cloud is made of millions of tiny water droplets. All those drops add up to a lot of weight. One small cloud can hold hundreds of tons of water.

So why doesn't it fall on your head? Because the water droplets are so small and light that the air pushes them up. They float, just like dust floats in a sunbeam.

But when the drops get too heavy, they fall as rain. So next time you see a cloud, remember — you are looking at a floating giant.
