Have you noticed that recently, no matter whether you’re scrolling through Instagram, Threads, or even Xiaohongshu, one word just keeps popping up?

HYROX.

I honestly feel like it has exploded almost overnight.

A few years ago, I had never even heard of it. But now, I have friends signing up for races, gyms around Sydney are offering HYROX classes, and people who never used to post about fitness are suddenly sharing photos with medals around their necks.

Then I started noticing something else.

It’s not just everyday people.

Professional athletes are doing HYROX. Olympians are doing HYROX. Entrepreneurs are doing HYROX. Fitness influencers, YouTubers, celebrities… they’re all jumping in.

What is going on? Why has this event become so popular in such a short amount of time?

So today, I want to talk about three things.

First, what exactly is HYROX? Second, who created it, and how did it become one of the fastest-growing fitness competitions in the world? And finally—and I think this is the most interesting question—why is everyone suddenly obsessed with it?

Because I actually don’t think this is just about fitness.

I think HYROX tells us something about where fitness culture—and maybe even our own society—is heading.
