Today, I want to talk about something that sounds very simple, but the more I think about it, the more complicated it becomes: Why is it so hard to make friends as an adult?

According to a major report released by the WHO last year, roughly one in six people around the world experiences loneliness. And interestingly, loneliness is actually more common among adolescents and young adults than among older people.

You can be 25, living in New York, working at a big company, going to bars every weekend, with 2,000 followers on Instagram—and still feel incredibly lonely.

So today, let’s talk about adult friendship: why it gets harder, what modern loneliness actually looks like, and maybe most importantly, what we can do about it.
