Do you type on a desktop or laptop keyboard every day?

Yeah, sure, not a day goes by without using a computer. I use a desktop keyboard for work, my laptop keyboard at home, and I also type on my smartphone daily. As for the desktop keyboard, it actually took me some time to get accustomed to it, but y'know, just like with many other skills, practice makes perfect.

When did you learn how to type on a keyboard?

I first picked up Chinese typing during computer classes in junior high school. Then I got the hang of typing in English when I was at college after I got my very first laptop. I wasn't particularly fast on it to begin with, but my typing speed gradually improved with practice.

How do you improve your typing?

Well, it's pretty straightforward. Constant practice is how I got better — besides taking a typing class what else can you do besides practice really? Keyboard formats are largely similar on any device; basically, it's size that's the main difference. So once you become confident typing on one device, you tend to adapt naturally to the others.

• formats 格式

• device 设备

• become confident 变得熟练、有信心

• adapt naturally 自然适应

Do you prefer typing or handwriting?

It actually depends. Typing is undeniably far more convenient, but I still love that tangible feeling of putting pen to paper. As a matter of fact, I keep a notebook at work to jot down sudden thoughts along with updating my to‑do list. And at home, I always keep a pile of paper right next to my laptop. There's just something about writing by hand that helps me memorise information better.

• updating 更新
